Following an investigation into his nomination and disagreement over his previous remarks about Israel, Canada’s fresh key human rights director resigned before he even took the position.
In a LinkedIn post on Monday, Birju Dattani stated,” I have agreed to withdraw as American Human Rights Commission’s chief director effective today.
” I remain a steadfast believer in the Commission’s function, authority, and its relevance to our democracy”.
The Canadian Human Rights Commission, which is independent of the federal government, investigates, among other things, animal rights issues against the federal government of Canada.
Canada’s Justice Minister Arif Virani said in a speech he accepted Dattani’s selection.
According to him, “my top priority is always to keep all Indians in the French Human Rights Commission,” he said, adding that the appointing approach for a new chief commissioner may start as soon as possible.
Dattani was appointed in June, but some Israeli organizations objected to his visit.
He was accused, among other things, of hosting panel during Israel Apartheid Week and the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions activity and tweeting” Palestinians are Warsaw Ghetto Prisoners of Today”.
According to the results of his inspection, he did not exhibit any anti-Semitism or bias toward Jews or Israelis, and did not harbor any anti-Semitism.
It, however, took issue with his failure to disclose in his program his use of a second brand, Mujahid Dattani.
According to the analysis report, Dattani’s justification for not using Mujahid Dattani’s different names was lacked credibility.
According to Virani,” Based on the findings that the document contains, I wish to tell you that I have important concerns related to your candour during the interview process.”
