Former US President Donald Trump wants the sentencing hearing for the New York hush money legal case to be postponed until after the November national poll. In a letter released Thursday, Trump’s attorney, Todd Blanche, argued that proceeding with the punishment as planned on September 18—just seven days before Election Day—would constitute vote intervention.
A delay, according to Blanche, may even give Trump the chance to think about his upcoming actions. This is in light of the trial judge’s anticipated decision on September 16 regarding the defense’s request to reverse the ruling and dismiss the case based on the US Supreme Court’s most current selection in July regarding political resistance.
There is no justification for rushing on, Blanche wrote in the text, underscoring the need for more time to address the complex constitutional issues.
