DNC Night One: Biden says anti-Israel protesters ‘have a point’ because ‘people are being killed on both sides’

As Chicago gears up to host the Democratic National Convention ( DNC), city officials are bracing for an influx of more than 50, 000 visitors, along with thousands of protesters. Following the murder of George Floyd, there are problems that the DNC could stoke demonstrations similar to those in 2020. This considerable planning comes in response. During those demonstrations, fire, looting, and violence caused significant damage in downtown Chicago.

In addition to the increased education, plenty of additional law enforcement officers from all over Illinois will be stationed. These reinforcements may bolster safety around the United Center, the main venue for the convention, and maintain that Chicago’s 50 neighborhoods remain secured.

Firms are boarding up shops because they are afraid of a duplicate of the looting sprees that ravaged the business area during the protests of 2020. Scott Shapiro, user of the clothing store Syd Jerome, expressed suspicion about the town’s ability to protect businesses. ” This area has a poor track record when it comes to protecting firms”, Shapiro told WLS-TV.

Since our clients and their employers have instructed them to stay at home throughout the protocol for their own safety,” we thought it was more careful,” he continued.

Breitbart News lays out Chicago’s history of bad safety:

Large numbers of teenagers walked the streets for several days to take, struggle, and steal before the town was chosen for the 2024 convention in April 2023.

According to Breitbart News, the boys ‘ violence persisted for several times, causing significant harm to both the neighborhood and each other.

Then-Mayor-Elect Brandon Johnson ( D) stressed how important it was not to “demonize” the teenagers who participated in the violence.

The city has a shocking pattern of condoning violent unrest, as the 2020 Black Lives Matter ( BLM) rioterslooted, vandalized, and shot up Chicago businesses and neighborhoods.

Local BLM promoters defended the stealing, calling it “reparations”. In the same way, pro-Palestinian protesters attacked the properties of local politicians on Christmas Eve 2023 and blocked Interstate 90, the main arterial that runs between Chicago and O’Hare International Airport, in both directions.

In June, pro-Palestinian activists vandalized the state’s Buckingham Fountain by dyeing the liquid dark and spray-painting information like” Gaza is bleeding” on it.

Snelling claimed that Chicago is better equipped than it was in 2020 to handle massive protests that are anticipated to occur around the DNC.

The police director remarked that” We have a town to protect” and that legislation enforcement authority has been providing additional training for more than a year.

The Chicago Police Department did patrol the neighborhoods in every area to prevent resources being squandered, he continued.

The state’s restrictions on opposition activities are still being constantly challenged by activists. The Coalition to March on the DNC, representing 200 social justice companies, has been locked in a constitutional challenge with the city over permitting right. The coalition immediately brought legal action against the city, alleging that restrictions on the use of portable restrooms, sound systems, and stages for the protests at Union Park, where they were originally held.

The city consented to let a phase and sound system for both gatherings planned by the coalition during a recent incident reading. U.S. District Judge Andrea Wood, but, upheld the town’s decision to minimize the protest route and make it further away from the United Center.

Hatem Abudayyeh, director for the alliance, expressed fears that the state’s approved path, which is shorter and includes strong turns, could lead to hazardous bottlenecks. He claimed that the coalition’s proposed longer, 2.4-mile course would better support the “tens of thousands of people “‘s anticipated turnout and lower the risk of arrests.
