Is the Shroud of Turin Real or Fake? New Research May Shed Light on Its Authenticity

I recall visiting Atlanta with a class from my religion to see the Shroud of Turin, the linen cloth used by Joseph of Arimathea tobury Jesus and put him in the tomb some time in the middle of the 1980s. In that filled exhibit hall, which featured the story of the veil, I can recall videos and images, as well as the fact that it was housed in a glass case.

I was n’t adult enough in my devotion to determine whether it was true when I was definitely 12 or 13 years old. Even then, there were gossips that people were experiencing healing after getting close to the blanket, and I do recall the discussion surrounding the courting of the object. However, it fascinated me much to keep an eye on any information I see about it even now.

The Shroud of Turin initially came to prominence in the 1350s, and by the 16th century, it had a permanent residence in Turin, Italy. The faithful have for hundreds of years held the view that it was Jesus ‘ burial attire, and many still do so now. However, some researchers came to the conclusion that the veil even dates back to the Middle Ages in the 1980s.

Now, a group of Italian researchers have used a new technique called Wide-Angle X-ray Scattering ( WAXS ) to study the shroud. They come to the conclusion that the material dates back to the time of Jesus when they compare the veil to another cloth sample that dates to the New Testament period.

Scientific Technique Dates Shroud of Turin to Around the Occasion of Christ’s Death and Resurrection

Liberato De Caro discusses his peer-reviewed conclusions, based on an X-ray method of research, used to determine the time of the shroud’s particles. ⤵ ️ https ://t.co/uLzCh09gCt

” We obtained one-dimensional integrated WAXS data profiles for the TS sample, which were fully compatible with the analogous measurements obtained on a linen sample whose dating, according to historical records, is 55–74 AD, Siege of Masada ( Israel )”, write researchers Liberato De Caro, Teresa Sibillano, Rocco Lassandro, Cinzia Giannini, and Giulio Fanti. They conclude,” The experimental results are compatible with the hypothesis that the TS is a 2000-year-old relic, as supposed by Christian tradition, under the condition that it was kept at suitable levels of average secular temperature—20.0–22.5 °C—and correlated relative humidity—75–55 % —for 13 centuries of unknown history, in addition to the seven centuries of known history in Europe”.

The functions of the veil that Christians believe were Jesus ‘ burial attire are explained in The Daily Mail:

A gaunt person with sunken eyes who was between 5 feet 7 and 6 feet high appears to be wearing light, brown clothing on the front and back. &nbsp,

Markings on the body even match those on Jesus ‘ crucifixion, which are mentioned in the Bible, such as hawthorn marks on the head, gashes on the back, and shoulder scars.

According to researchers, the bridge he carried on his shoulders weighed about 300 lbs, which would have caused injury.

The Bible states Jesus was whipped by the Romans, aligning with the lacerations on the back, who also placed ]a ] crown of thorns on his head before the crucifixion.

Does this fresh studies demonstrate that Jesus was covered in the same material as He was in the monument by the Shroud of Turin? We ca n’t know now, and we may never know. But our faith in Jesus should n’t rest on the status of artifacts. As Jesus told the Apostle Thomas,” Blessed are those who have never seen and yet have believed” ( John 20: 29b, ESV).
