If the US presidential primaries were to be held now, Republican nominee Donald Trump would succeed, according to former Obama planner David Axelrod, who warned the Democrats to be “euphoric” about Kamala Harris’s shaky lead over Trump.
” Look, she] Harris ] has made extraordinary progress. We were all in Milwaukee]for the Republican National Convention ] a fortnight ago and, you know, there was joy that and a feeling that this contest was over, that they were going to win by a landslide, probably sweeping large majorities in the House and Senate”, Axelrod said during a CNN panel.
” But this is still a really dynamic culture. If the vote were now, I’m not certain who would succeed and I think it may well be President Trump, because it’s an Electoral College battle”, he added.
In Nevada and Georgia, Harris has drastically narrowed the space with the previous leader. According to the survey, Trump leads Harris by 48 % to 47 % in Nevada and by 50 % to 46 % in Georgia.
Axelrod added that Harris was correct to urge Democrats to be passionate, but that they must convert that into vigorous action in order to win the election. I think that’s going to be part of what you hear around”, he said.
Axelrod was a vocal advocate for Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the US presidential contest.
