One statue of President George Washington inside the country’s capital is just too distracting.
During the top of the Black Lives Matter protests in June 2020, the memorial at George Washington University was beheaded. By the summer of 2022, the school had it fixed.
The secret establishment will now have to re-enter the institution’s custodial staff. The statue was hit on Wednesday by dark mist paint-covered graffiti that reads “disclose divest now.” According to photos posted by pro-Palestinian social media accounts, it was one of numerous locations that were regularly vandalized.
The theft occurred as pro-Palestinian protesters stoked off the school’s opening day with violent demonstrations, despite the fact that GWU had already suspended both Israeli Voices for Peace and Students for Justice in Palestine for the fall semester in an effort to halt the chaos.
On the first day of the slide quarter,” Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside University President Ellen Granberg’s on-campus residence and the walls surrounding University Yard,” according to the GW Hatchet pupil paper.
The protesters even tried to get back into the fenced-off GW University Yard:” Officers are on the scene, but kids seem convinced. This was the site of their camp,’ Shohada Square,'” reported resident columnist Stu Studio.
Students at George Washington University and DMV SJP are attempting to reclaim the fenced-off GW University Yard. Police are on the field, but learners seem convinced. This was the place of their camp,” Shohada Square”.

On Thursday, the Student Coalition for Palestine at GWU reported the graffiti on Instagram:
Last night, automatic protestors sent a text to Provost Christopher Alan Bracey at his house, spray painting the communication amplified and repeated by students, faculty, and the people of this city onto Bracey’s very unique driveway:” Report DIVEST NOW”! Provost Bracey himself viciously assaulted two kids earlier this spring at the campsite. The same desire was also applied to a monument of George Washington on campus in response.
Allow Bracey and each and every school administrator know this. We did not waver from our demands. This management has the heart of 186, 000 Zionists on their arms. Our memories and consciousness are always strewn in to the fire of pepper spray, the brues of police cruelty, and the tag of cuffs and zipties on our friends. Wherever you go, your acts may follow you. You will be confronted in your activities, in your headquarters, at your homes. We may hold you accountable for every action you take.
A pro-Palestinian student court at GWU called for the execution of school leaders on guillotines, leading to this week’s uproar at the university. The spring quarter protests became so violent that GWU administrators requested assistance from the rail officers.
According to a note from University President Ellen Granberg, all efforts to end the camp and stop protesters from intensification were unsuccessful.
The protest ends quiet or creative when protesters violate barriers established to protect the community, vandalize a university statue and flag, surround and intimidate Facebook students with racist images and cruel rhetoric, hunt people out of open spaces based on their perceived beliefs, and disregard, degrade, and push GW Police Officers and university maintenance staff, according to Granberg’s memo. All of these things have occurred at GW over the past five days.
