A phishing campaign targeting US officials ‘ WhatsApp records from both the Biden and Trump administrations was discovered by Metadata on Friday. The organization identified the exact Egyptian hacker group as the one who most recently hacked the Trump campaign.
According to Meta’s blog post, the hacking attempts involved a small number of transactions posing as professional help for different online companies, including AOL, Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft. There was no evidence to suggest that the qualified WhatsApp records had been effectively compromised, despite the fact that people had flagged these addresses as cautious.
The hackers team accountable for these efforts, known as APT42, is believed to be connected to an intelligence department within Iran’s defense. This organization is known for quietly activating cameras and microphones, recording calls, and stealing texts from its target ‘ wireless devices.
In the run-up to the November US national vote, APT42’s actions were linked to subsequent attempts to hack US national campaigns, as reported by Microsoft and Google earlier this month. The thieves “appeared to have focused on political and diplomatic officials, firm, and other public characters, including some people associated with services of President Biden and former President Trump,” according to the company’s website post, which prohibited the company from naming the targeted folks.
The targeted individuals were located in Israel, the Palestinian territories, Iran, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
A cyberespionage organization linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has attempted to target both parties ‘ presidential campaigns, according to the US government and Google. While Harris ‘ campaign remained unaffected, the hacking group succeeded in breaking into former president Trump’s campaign.
