
A man admitted guilt this week on charges relating to the unintentionally fatal shooting of a 14-year-old next month.
Albert J. Sutton, 27, pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter and foolish management of a firearm, according to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Sentencing was scheduled for , Oct. 25.
The firing happened , on the day of , Sept. 3, 2023, at a home on , Wyngate Drive, near the intersection of , Virginia Beach Boulevard , and , Military Highway.
Sutton was watching about a few youngsters that ranged in age from child to youth while the children’s families ran duties, according to a release from the lawyer’s office.
According to the launch, Sutton inadvertently pulled the gun on him and was showing it to a group of children in an upstairs room.  , Amir Anthony Burnett, 14, was shot in the chest and later pronounced deceased at a hospital.
Sutton fled after, leaving the children unsupervised and having to call 911 and try to help Amir, the launch said.
After that evening, Sutton was detained. The gun was immediately misfired while he tried to return it to one of the kids, but he finally admitted to doing so while trying to put it back in his waistband. Since his imprisonment, he has remained in jail without a tie.
