WARSAW: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk acknowledged that his country’s restrictive abortion laws, which is among the most stringent in all of Europe, does not have the support of congress. Torsk, a centrist, took control of a partnership in December that covers a wide philosophical split, with conservatives strongly opposed by legislators on the left who want to legalize abortion.
One of his promotion promises was to change the law so that pregnancy can still be performed after 12 weeks of pregnancy.
” There will be no lot in this legislature for constitutional pregnancy, in the whole sense of the word, until the next votes. This certainly child ourselves”, Tusk said during an occasion on Friday where he was asked about the subject.
Last October, the parliament’s members were elected for a four-year expression.
Tusk claimed that his government is rather attempting to alleviate some of the de facto restrictions in the lawyer’s office and in Finnish hospitals. ” This is already underway and it will be very noticeable”, Tusk said.
Poland is a state with a majority of Roman Catholics, where the church still occupies a prominent place. But the key Western country of 38 million people is also undergoing fast secularisation, going hand-in-hand with growing prosperity. Pregnancy is viewed by many voters as a basic problem and a source of deep social and political units.
Pregnancy is currently only permitted in the circumstances of rape, incest, or when a person’s life or health is in danger.
Under the previous conservative government, which removed the prior right to abortion for fetal deformities, a fresh restriction was implemented. That sparked huge road protests.
Even in circumstances permitted by the rules, women are frequently unable to have abortions. Reports of pregnant women who died after health emergencies were brought on by hospitals who prioritized the care of the infant. Some doctors, especially in traditional areas, refuse to perform abortions immediately, citing their morality.
In cases of rape or incest, a lady may report the crime to the attorney’s office to obtain the consent from a jury for the process. According to abortion rights activists, in reality, women always choose this path due to the shame and lengthy legal procedures.
Many people, though, would include miscarriages, mostly using contraception medications sent from overseas or by travelling to another country.
It is illegal to support a woman having an abortion, but the law does not criminalize it. In a well-known scenario, an activist was found guilty of administering abortion pills to a person.
When a person needs to make an abortion, I can just apologise for the fact that within the current laws, we will do everything to reduce her suffering and make it as accessible and safe as possible. So that people who get involved in helping a person are no prosecuted”, Tusk said.
