JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate, defended his controversial” childless cat lady” comment, which caused a lot of controversy because it claimed he is” a real man” and that Democrats had misinterpreted it.
The discussion traces back to a 2022 Fox News meeting where Vance criticised left-liberal ideas, referring to some Democrats and their allies as” single rabbit women” who, he claimed, were driven by personal discontent and aimed to distribute pain. The notes, which resurfaced lately, have been met with strong emotions, particularly from those who felt marginalized by his thoughts.
On NBC’s Meet the Press, Vance said that he acknowledged the distress his remarks have caused, expressing dread that some interpreted them severely. He also criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democratic National Committee ( DNC ) for what he called false statements. Vance continued to say he had no worries about the material of his comment despite this.
Look, I definitely regret that a lot of folks did it the wrong way, and I definitely regret Kamala Harris and the DNC both lied about it, Vance told NBC’s Kristen Welker. But, he maintained that his opinions were intended as a joke.
Vance claimed that his controversial pun was intended to bring up serious issues involving family relationships and financial problems in the US. He stressed that the higher costs of housing and shopping, and what he perceives as an anti-family lifestyle, are central to his coverage plan.
” I’m a real person. I’m going to make jokes, I’m going to suggest things bitterly. And I think that what’s essential is that we focus on the policy”, Vance said.
” I believe it’s most important to be who I really am, and to say that those sarcastic remarks were made in the services of a really important reason. This region has become too anti-family. It’s very expensive to purchase a home. It’s very expensive to purchase foods. I want to change that, and Donald Trump wants to change that. And unless we get better authority, we’re never going to”, he added.
When asked about the effects of his remarks on women who may feel offended or hurt, Vance said that while he does not regret them, his” childless cat lady” comment was not one of his main concerns.
” I have a lot of regrets, Kristen, but making a prank three years ago is not at the top 10 of the listing”, Vance said
