Some people think Kamala Harris ‘ reluctance to speak out against the internet is more condescending than former president Donald Trump’s openly antagonistic attitude toward the press.
Host Bill Maher pointed out in a recent” Real Time” episode that while Trump frequently criticizes the press and calls them” the enemy of the people,” Harris ‘ silence may be sending an even stronger message.
” What do you think about the fact that Kamala does n’t talk to the press”? Maher asked CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. He continued,” In a way, I feel like it’s more insulting than what Trump does. Trump says you’re’ the enemy of the people,’ which is really bad. What she’s kind of saying is,’ I do n’t need you. I’m never talking to you. You do n’t matter. You’re no relevant nowadays to me.’ To me, that’s even worse than’ I hate you.’ It’s like’ I do n’t think about you.'”
Harris has received criticism for her lack of transparency and accessibility because she has n’t held any significant press conferences or interviews since being nominated as the Democratic candidate. This has raised questions about her willingness to speak with the media and the public, especially as she assumes a position that has the ability to have an impact on considerable international and national decisions.
While some, like Collins, argue that Trump’s regular conflicts with the internet were damaging in their own right, the lack of contact from Harris presents its own problems. According to Maher, Harris may be sending the idea that the media is no longer needed in her opinion, which has potentially profound effects on how the internet interacts with the highest levels of government moving ahead.
