
Tripoli: Following are information about the Lebanese-based party Hezbollah, which has been trading blaze with Israel since the start of the war in Gaza on Oct. 7 between Israel and Iran-backed Hamas.

What are Hezbollah’s causes?

Hezbollah is a key member of the Middle East’s” Axis of Resistance,” which includes Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist organization that sparked the Gaza war by attacking Israel on October 7. Hezbollah began firing on Jewish positions in the border region on October 8 as a show of solidarity with the Palestinians. Since then, the two countries have been battling it out almost daily, with Israel launching heat and artillery attacks and Hezbollah launching rockets and drones. Both sides have expanded their problems, though the attacks have largely taken place close to or near the border.

How strong is Hezbollah’s government?
Hezbollah continued to use its weapons in the fight against Israeli forces occupying the mostly Shi’ite Muslim south of the country, as opposed to other groups that disarmed following Lebanon’s civil war. Israel resigned in 2000 after decades of rebel fighting, but Hezbollah still had its weapons.
Hezbollah showed military prowess in 2006 while engaged in a five-week conflict with Israel, which erupted after it entered the country, kidnapping two men, and killing people.

What kind of local influence does Hezbollah possess?
Hezbollah has inspired and supported another Iranian-backed teams across the region, including Iraqi Shi’ite armies. It significantly contributed to the fight against the war in Syria, which still has combatants under President Bashar al-Assad, thanks to its ally. Hezbollah has reportedly engaged in combat alongside the Yemeni Houthis, which is backed by Saudi Arabia. Hezbollah denies this.
What is Hezbollah’s position in Lebanon?
Some Lebanese Shi’ites who claim the organization defends Lebanon from Israel support Hezbollah’s influence in part due to its weapons and support for its leadership. There are lawmakers in parliament and officials in the state.

After the authorities vowed to take actions against the team’s defense communications channel in 2008, a power struggle between Hezbollah and its Palestinian political adversaries led to an armed conflict. Pieces of Beirut were taken over by Hezbollah fighters.
Hezbollah and friends who support its ownership of arms won a lot in the parliamentary elections in 2018. Although this was lost in 2022, the organization also has significant political influence.
Accused of assaults on eastern interests
According to Palestinian leaders and American intelligence, Hezbollah-linked organizations carried out death attacks on American diplomats and goals and kidnapped Westerners in the 1980s.
The United States holds Hezbollah accountable for suicide bombing in 1983 that destroyed the US Marine office in Beirut, killing 241 troops, and a French camp, killing 58 European troops. Additionally, it claims that Hezbollah was responsible for the 1983 death attack at the US embassy in Beirut.
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said in a 2022 meeting that those problems and hostage-taking were carried out by small organizations not affiliated with Hezbollah in reference to those assaults and hostage-taking.
Hezbollah has also been accused of carrying out other types of violent attacks. Iran and Argentina share blame for the fatal attack of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires that left 85 people dead in 1994 and for the 1992 Israeli embassy bombing that left 29 people dead.
