Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a protégé of Sikh separatist head Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was killed in British Columbia next year as a result of increased threats to his life, according to American authorities. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a notable Sikh dissident, revealed on Tuesday that authorities in Ontario, in partnership with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), have provided Inderjeet Singh Gosal with a “duty to alert” notice.
This year, Gosal, who was Nijjar’s secretary at the time of his murder in June 2023, was given the warning. Nijjar’s death has sparked significant discussion, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in September 2023 citing reliable allegations of possible American government role. Four people have been charged by French officers in connection with the murder. India, however, has denied any responsibility in the event.
The FBI is presently looking into a drive-by killing that happened on August 11 and targeted a California advocate who is closely associated with Nijjar, adding to the stress. As part of a broader research into potential dangers against Sikh separatists, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into the event.
Sikh hardliners who support the establishment of Khalistan, an impartial state that would be separated from Punjab, India, have been accused of protection in Canada. In response to the dangers, Gosal said,” I’ve been informed by American officials about the dangers to my life. But, my devotion to the independence of Punjab from Indian activity remains unwavering”.
For a quick response, RCMP and Ontario authorities could not be reached. The business of Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc, who oversees rules protection, declined to provide a speech.
In a related development, the FBI allegedly attempted to kill Pannun in June 2023, but an American nationwide, Nikhil Gupta, was accused of trying to arrange the death under the guidance of an American intelligence standard.
