Gov. In an effort to protect the integrity of elections and stop illegal voting, Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas ) announced on Monday that the state had removed more than one million voters from its voter rolls. The persons removed include non-citizens, dying electors, and criminals with criminal convictions.
In a Monday press release, Abbott said,” Election morality is essential to our republic. To guard the right to vote and to break down on illegal election, I have signed the strongest election laws in the country. Over one million unsuitable citizens have been removed from our vote rolls as a result of these reforms, including noncitizens, dying citizens, and people who have relocated to another state, in the last three years.
According to the press release, Abbott signed Senate Bill 5 in 2017, which increased fines for election officials who deliberately permit non-citizens and unsuitable voters. In 2021, Abbott signed , Senate Bill 1,  , Senate Bill 1113, and , House Bill 574.
In addition to criminalizing ballot harvesting, Senate Bill 1 illegal voting stealing, made lying during voting registration a express offence, outlawed the distribution of unwelcome mail-in ballots, required recognition for mail-in ballots, and mandated that the secretary of state conduct election audits every two years.
House Bill 574 made deliberately counting irrelevant votes or refusing to matter appropriate votes a second-degree criminal, while Senate Bill 1113 made it possible for the secretary of state to withdraw funds from Texas counties that do not replace non-citizens from voting rolls.

Abbott stated in a press release on Monday that the secretary of state and county voting registrars “have an ongoing legal requirement to examine the voter rolls, reduce unsuitable voters, and send any possible illegal voting to the Attorney General’s Office and regional authorities for investigation and prosecution.”
The Republican government asserted that Texas would not tolerate “illegal voting” and that it would “actively secure Texans ‘ divine right to vote while aggressively protecting our elections from improper voting.”
In a speech obtained by Fox 7, Abbott said that the legislation he signed in 2021 have “enhanced” the government’s ability to evaluate “non-citizens who may be able to vote”.
The president’s press transfer noted that out of the over 1.1 million citizens who were purged from the country’s voter rolls, about 6, 500 were non-citizens, over 6, 000 had criminal convictions, and over 457, 000 voters were dying.
Abbott stated in a statement to Fox 7 that” that obviously is a number higher than what we want to see, we want to see zero.” ” I do n’t care what your color is — black, white, brown, asian— I think everybody wants to see fair elections with the rules followed with no illegal voting”.
