Abbott says Texas ‘solved’ border problem but country is stuck without new president

Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX ), a Republican in Texas, claimed Texas has defeated illegal immigrants, but he feared a new president would be needed to stop them from emigrating to other border states.

On Tuesday, the Republican governor said,” We’ve solved the Texas problem”, telling NewsNation that illegal border crossings are down “more than 85 %” over the past year at the Texas-Mexico border.

Since breaking data in December 2023, illegal immigration has decreased at the Mexican border. Abbott argued that the dwindling figures are due to President Joe Biden’s senior buy from June, which restricted unlawful entry at the U.S. Mexico border, and that he deserves credit for this decline.

” If you go back and look at when border crossings began to decline, that was more than half a season before”, Abbott said. The decline was caused by Texas ‘ aggressive aggressive businesses, which included using the guard, the razor wire, and the pepper game.

” Trump just happened to come in and stepped and rode on our accomplishments, “he added.

Although he celebrated the fall, &nbsp, Abbott said he would never rest until improper bridges are at” zero “at his country’s borders. But, even if the Republican governor does reach his target of” reducing illegal immigration 100 % “into his position, &nbsp, he said he is also worried about” all those extremists, all those assassins, all those criminals” slipping into the U. S. by going through New Mexico, Arizona, and California, the three other state that borders Mexico.

A new president must be in charge of making sure we are actually securing our border, he said.

Border issues were at the center of the 2024 presidential election between Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Abbott has long been a steadfast supporter of Trump, most recently speaking out in fervent support of the Republican National Convention nominee. If Trump is elected for a second term, he has pledged to carry out mass deportations.

The Texas Republican has put in place a number of strict laws to stop illegal immigration in his state. The United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled at the end of July that the Republican governor’s plan to install buoy barriers in the Rio Grande to deter illegal immigrants was legal.

The measure, part of the multibillion-dollar initiative” Operation Lone Star” that he launched in March 2021, is just one component Abbott credits for combatting illegal immigration.

In April 2022, the Texas governor inaugurated a busing operation that transported illegal immigrants outside of Texas and into other states with sanctuary city policies. He added yet another crucial component to the border security strategy.

According to a press release released on June 28 from the governor’s office, Abbott has overseen the transportation of roughly 119, 000 illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities all over the country.

Abbott declared last month during a speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee,” We have continued busting migrants to sanctuary cities all across the country.” Until we finally secure our border, those buses will continue to roll.

However, Abbott claimed that buses had not left Texas for almost two months about four weeks after making the remarks.

” The crossings have been down so much we have n’t actually had the volume of people to bus to other locations,” Abbott said Tuesday.

Abbott promised he would” start busting operations again” in the event of another increase in illegal immigration, and the program is still in place. The governor of Texas stated that he is “fully anticipating” a rise in border crossings in his state in the upcoming months.
