Japan is currently experiencing a corn deficit with empty shelves appearing in stores and stores. It is already threatened by megaquakes and typhoons.
Following a government warning this month that a possible “megaquake,” as well as several typhoons, and the monthly Obon vacation, Japan saw empty shelves in supermarkets next week.
Other than that, warm climate, water scarcity, and increased demand tied to record-keeping foreign visitors may be to blame for the lower harvests.
” We could only get half the usual amount of rice this summertime, and sacks of wheat rapidly run out,” a clerk at a Fresco supermarket chain store told AFP in the Chinese capital.
At one food store in Tokyo, a sign seen by AFP read:” In order for many customers to be able to buy, we ask you to purchase one ( bag of rice ) a day per family”.
However, Japan is currently going through a transition as more fresh corn is being introduced onto the marketplace. Consumers are urged to keep quiet by the ministry of agriculture, timber, and fisheries, assuring them that the lack will get resolved in the near future.
The government has urged consumers to avoid panic buying rice because supplies will quickly rebound with this year’s produce. According to NHK, customers have reported having trouble finding corn in stores because of a shortage.
The grain crop is expanding rapidly, and producers in some areas may produce about one week earlier than usual, Sakamoto Tetsushi said to reporters on Tuesday. The shortages may be resolved slowly”.
Sakamoto even urged users to only purchase what they need.
