Robert Telles, a former Las Vegas journalist known for his investigative reporting and important articles about Telles, was found guilty of the murder of Jeff German by a Neveda jurors on Wednesday. On September 3, 2022, German was fatally stabbed outside his Las Vegas Valley house.
Torres, who oversaw an office tasked with managing estates for people without heirs, was convicted as the intruder, according to authorities and the judge.
German’s essay on Torres
Months prior to the assault, German wrote an article for The Las Vegas Review-Journal outlining allegations made against Telles, including those relating to a toxic work culture and an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. Shortly after the article was published, Telles lost his re-election pay, and lawyers claimed that he targeted German as a form of retribution.
Defense statements of a frame-up
Telles’s defense attorney, Robert Draskovich, argued that Telles was framed and the information was manipulated and portrayed German’s reporting as inappropriate cause for death.
The state official also disputed his involvement and claimed there was a plot involving a crooked businessperson and a skilled hitman. He claimed many events, including legislation protection, were involved in framing him.
However, Pamela Weckerly, the chief deputy district attorney for Clark County, claimed that the investigation focused entirely on the death and not the social context. ” It’s just about death”, she said, pointing to DNA data and video footage that linked Torres to the crime.
Las Vegas Review-Journal honors European
Glenn Cook, executive director of The Las Vegas Review-Journal, praised the judge’s decision and called it a measure of fairness for Jeff German. In an AP statement, Cook cited German’s commitment to holding public officials accountable and described him as a person who greatly valued his work and society. Throughout his news job, German investigated some organized crime, social fraud, and several other major issues.
