When she sits down with CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris will end a nearly 40-day interview slog, but even then it wo n’t be one-on-one.
Political strategists are underplaying the value of the event, claiming Harris is wisely deciding to win voters over other means.
Democratic strategist Stefan Hankin said,” This is going to be much ado about nothing.” This is not the best usage of your time as a candidate, unless you are dying to get your brand ID up and make people aware of who you are.
Democrats see it differently, saying the lack of spontaneous moments belies a lack of trust in Harris’s abilities, a notion that’s exacerbated by her ending the dryness with a friend in feet.
According to CNN critic Scott Jennings,” I think it’s incredibly poor, poor sauce to show up with your running mate.” ” The fact that they do n’t have enough confidence in her to let her sit herself, the actual top of the ticket, and do a single interview”.
Voters may clearly know what kind of president Harris will be if little choices, like when to do an meeting, require this far hand-wringing, he added.
Unfortunately, Harris’s most recent information interviews occurred on June 27, the evening of the discussion performance that would eventually force President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race. Harris defended his performance on CNN and ABC, insisting that he was prepared for another four times.
” Yes, there was a gradual start”, she told CNN’s Anderson Cooper that day. ” But it was a solid finish. Joe Biden is fighting on behalf of the American citizens on element, on legislation, on functionality. Joe Biden is incredibly powerful, and that cannot be debated”.
Less than a month later, Biden was gone and Harris ‘ support was being resurrected.
The shift seems to have worked out very well. Harris is currently trailing Trump in the majority of national polls, and he has received largely positive media coverage since taking over the Democrat campaign.
However, her inability to conduct interviews has sparked some reservations, and Trump is attempting to identify the contrast by speaking with both conventional and nontraditional press.
” It’s no accident that Kamala’s second interview is scheduled for the Thursday evening before Labor Day weekend”, Trump’s plan posted on X. They already believe it will be lost, and it has n’t even begun to air. Kamala is obviously afraid to conduct an interview on her own, and the meeting was recorded to help them with the editing.
Sasha Tirador, another Democratic strategist, is n’t concerned by the criticism surrounding Harris’s lack of interviews.
” We’re never going to put all of those people who are questioned about whether or not she can answer questions,” she said. People who have already decided to vote for Donald Trump make up the majority of those problems.
Alternatively, she says it’s important for a prospect to obtain their information out there, whether through an interview, paid advertising, or ads.

Republicans and spurned reporters may continue to decry Harris’s techniques, but Tirador thinks that should n’t be a concern for Harris’s campaign.
” The media does n’t dictate what interviews you do in a campaign”, she said. ” The experts and the individuals decide that.” She has a conversation coming up ]on Sept. 10]. I had n’t start doing any discussions until after the debate is over.
