Kamala Harris, vice president, continued her tilt to the mid during a highly anticipated CNN discussion, one that could have a bad ol’ impact on some progressive voters in the election.
When asked if she would change her mind regarding an arms embargo against Israel, a location that hard-left Democrats have urged her to follow, Harris responded,” No”. ” We have to find a bargain done. A package is not only the right thing to do to stop this war, but it will also uncover so much of what may happen future when you consider the significance of this for the families and the people who live in that region.
Since Hamas terrorist attacks on October 7 in Israel sparked a new circular of conflict with pro-Palestinian organizations, which have protested against Democrat activities.
” The evil mayor’s assertion was morally indefensible and politically shortsighted as the lack of American effects for]Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin ] Netanyahu’s horrific abuse on Israeli civilians in Gaza has emboldened Israel to now enter the West Bank”, Layla Elabed and Abbas Alawieh, co-founders of Uncommitted, said in a speech to the Washington Examiner. Vice President Harris must connect with the majority of Americans who oppose sending weapons to Israel.
Their discontent with Harris also erupted at the Democratic National Convention, when the organization decided against having a Palestinian British address the event. The pro-Palestinian party protested outside the convention rather, leaving in resentment.
The Uncommitted movement points to polls that back up its assertions, such as a CBS-YouGov survey from June, which found 61 % of respondents opposed to the United States sending weapons and supplies to Israel.
When she met with Netanyahu on July 25, only four weeks after President Joe Biden’s election campaign ended, Harris immediately sparked some optimism among supporters of Palestine and made surprisingly more receptive remarks toward Israel than her manager.
Harris , pledged , never to “look away in the face of these calamities” and said” we cannot allow ourselves to be amount to suffering, and I will not be passive”.
Even if the policy facts were unclear, the sentiment was evident. In her DNC statement on Aug. 22, Harris repeatedly teased a more hard-line stance on Israel.
” I will always make sure Israel has the ability to defend itself because the people of Israel has never again experience the dread that a terrorist firm called Hamas caused on October 7, including unspeakable sexual assault and the murder of young persons at a music festival,” Harris said that day. ” At the same time, what has happened in , Gaza , over the past 10 months is devastating. So many innocent people have died. Desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety over and over again. The scale of suffering is heartbreaking”.
That rhetoric apparently will not translate into new policy, however, which risks turning off the sizable” Uncommitted” movement that claimed 30 delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
In either case, the young candidate faces political danger. If Harris pivoted to the left she would risk alienating the party’s considerable pro-Israel contingent, including many Jewish voters. If Harris were to win the election, whether or not he could impose an arms embargo.
Republicans and centrist Democrats in Congress exploded when reports surfaced in early May that Biden had stopped a shipment of weapons to Israel. Some even threatened impeachment by comparing the situation to former US President Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial.
The fact that the shipment had received congressional approval, and Biden was therefore viewed as overstepping his constitutional authority to act alone, was at issue. If Harris attempted to enforce the embargo on her own, she would experience a similar revolt. She might attempt to pass one by persuading Congress to approve of her wishes next year, but that would likely require a steep learning curve.

Harris may have to work on tying up the pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian factions of her party for the time being as she tries to defeat Trump in November, underscoring her sympathy with both sides.
” I remain committed, since I’ve been on Oct. 8, to what we must do to work toward a two-state solution”, Harris said on Thursday, “where Israel is secure and, in equal measure, the , Palestinians , have security and self-determination and dignity”.
