According to a report from CNN, Telegram leader Pavel Durov is at the middle of a complex and contentious legal battle where it is claimed he allegedly abused one of his children and faces criminal charges for using his messaging platform.
European lawyers confirmed that they are requesting more information from European regulators regarding the allegations made by Irina Bolgar, Durov’s ex-partner and the family of his three children.
The complaints, filed in a Geneva jury in March 2023, accuse Durov of harming his youngest brother on five occasions between 2021 and 2022, including an instance where he allegedly threatened the boy’s life, reported CNN.
According to reports, Bolgar, who currently resides with his children in Switzerland with their children, claimed Durov cut off economic aid by blocking the bank tickets he had formerly provided.
Bolgar revealed on Instagram that despite not being married, their kids bear Durov’s last brand and were recognized by him. She later added that she had taken to Instagram to share her side of the story.
She explained that their marriage, which began in 2013, had once been family-like, with Durov often visiting her and the kids even after they moved to Switzerland in 2020. She continued, however, that she made the decision to make the allegations community after her children questioned why they were n’t mentioned virtual like Durov’s other kids. ” I decided to shed some light on this knowledge”, Bolgar wrote.
When Durov was detained at Paris’s Bourget Airport on Saturday, the circumstance took a serious move. The arrest, first related to claims of Telegram’s lack of tolerance in combating the use of the system by jihadists and far-right fanatics, has sparked a controversy over freedom of speech. Durov’s bail was set at 5 million euros, and he was subject to a proper research and released from custody. He must stay in France as the research progresses.
French President Emmanuel Macron, addressing the situation, emphasized that Durov’s arrest was an “independent behavior” taken by the European justice system, related to any anticipated discussions with the innovator. Additionally, Macron defended the decision to grant Durov French membership in 2021 and praised Durov’s efforts to learn French as part of a federal program to shape people who make a global contribution.
Durov, often referred to as the” Mark Zuckerberg of Russia”, left his country in 2014 and then resides in Dubai, where Telegram is headquartered. His game, while praised for enabling personal interaction in oppressive regimes, has also faced criticism for becoming a system where illegal activities, including the arranging of the 2015 Paris terror attacks, are coordinated.
