a small airplane crashed into a row of houses early on Saturday morning in a neighborhood south of Portland, killing three people, according to authorities, who told KATU-TV. Prior to the incident, authorities claimed that the plane was carrying two people and that at least one local had been unknown for.
One of the townhouses burned to the ground as a result of photos and videos released by KGW-TV in Portland. Up to six people have been displaced as a result of the flames, according to Gresham Fire Chief Scott Lewis, who has already impacted at least four of the houses. He said two people were treated at the scene, but he did n’t describe the type or severity of injuries.
The Federal Aviation Administration identified the airplane as a twin-engine Cessna 421C, which it says went down around 10: 30 am close Troutdale Airport, about a 30-minute drive west of Portland.
As the plane went down, it knocked over a pole and energy ranges, causing a distinct brush fire in a local area, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office. As a result of the plane’s collision in the residential neighborhood of Fairview, which has about 10,000 residents, it was split into several pieces.
Lewis claimed that the control tower at the Troutdale Airport received the first phone about the fire after they saw a heavy cloud of smoke rising in the air. But Lewis said that first information indicated” there was no message, no call for crisis” from the plane itself before it crashed.
The research into the collision is being led by the National Transportation Safety Board. According to director Peter Knudson, the company has dispatched two investigators to the crash site to look over the shipwreck. He declined to provide more information about the accident.
Troutdale Airport is described as a “flight education and fun airport” by the Port of Portland site, which regulates public aircraft and sea operations in the Portland region.
