Turkey customs officers in Edirne, a city close to the Greek border, seized a vehicle that was carrying a large number of exotic pets without authorization from Greece.
According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, a mid-sized hatchback with Greek license plates was carrying several protected species.
The car was carrying three animals, three llamas, one Southeastern desert, 12 pigeons, and 23 flying squirrels. Many of these species were adolescents.
The larger creatures were firmly bound and confined to their trunks, according to the scene images, while the smaller ones were crowded into bars.
Yuksel D, who was afterwards detained by Turkish government, was identified by investigators from the personal Demirören News Agency.
Authorities made sure all the creatures made it through the struggle, and the Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks is today taking care of them. They will then receive the necessary treatment and recovery.
