A Brazilian national wanted on five works of raping a Massachusetts baby has been taken into custody by federal immigration officials.
Todd M. Lyons, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations ‘ Boston Field Office Director, said in a statement that” Warley Neto allegedly repeatedly assaulted a Massachusetts child and represents a significant threat to the safety of our neighborhoods.
On March 11, 2018, Neto improperly entered the United States from Mexico near Paso Del Norte in El Paso, Texas, and the Border Patrol apprehended him. The following morning, he was freed from Border Patrol captivity and instructed to report to a judge who approved of his stay in the country.
Neto was first encountered by authorities in Edgartown, Massachusetts, in February 2023 after an assault against people of his house. In June of this year, he was found guilty of stoking or suffocating a member of his family, assaulting or threatening to commit a murder, and serving three months of a year in jail.
In January, authorities in Tisbury, Massachusetts, arrested Neto on a subpoena for five counts of murder of a baby and five counts of enticing a small under the age of 16. Neto was eventually charged by the Dukes County Superior Court.
Given that regional authorities typically do not engage with federal authorities under” sanctuary” laws that forbid the two entities from cooperating, the arrest was a rare example in New England. In almost all cases, New England’s cities and towns have passed city ordinances that prohibit officers from interfering with federal immigration officials.
Lyons claimed that ICE was appreciative of Neto’s discharge from the Dukes County Sheriff’s Office as opposed to forcing federal agents to rearrange him once he was back in the area.
According to Lyons,” also frequently local jurisdictions refuse to accept immigration detainers and transfer harmful offenders back into the community,” according to Lyons, who noted that ICE is concentrating on detaining New England’s most egregious noncitizen offenders.
ICE granted a request from the local police to keep Neto in prison for up to 48 hours before he could be taken into national prison.
In recent months, ICE has increasingly arrested serious , criminals , charged with harsh acts after being released into the land from the , border , during President Joe Biden’s management.
