ANALYSIS: The Center for Antiracist Research does not do study – or really anyone
In the past year, Ibram Kendi’s Center for Antiracist Research has not shown any signs of exercise, according to a College Fix evaluation of his website.
Kendi founded the center in 2020 in an effort to “use the fruits of thoughtful and thorough open scholarship to build an antiracist future for America,” but the center fired half of its staff next year as a result of a switch to a fellowship model, leading to a decline in apparent activity.
While The Emancipator, a modern magazine connected to the middle, continues to regularly submit stories, various initiatives listed on its site have not been recently updated. The Emancipator is “housed within” the middle but has its own advisory panel, which includes Kendi.
The College Fix sent two letters to Tami Nguyen, the agency’s senior communications consultant, in the last three weeks, inquiring about some specific projects that have not been updated in months or years, if there will be a 2024-25 group of study affiliates, and the future of the Center for Antiracist Research. Nguyen has not yet responded to the post calls.
Similar inquiries and comments made via email and voice have not been responded to by Boston University’s media relations staff.
There is n’t a single reliable indication that fellowships or similar initiatives are being considered. ” We are growing! We want to work with you if you are enthusiastic about antiracism and dedicated to our cause! Check out our open jobs below”, the” Career Opportunities” site lists. There are no positions that are available right now.
A 2023 cohort of multidisciplinary research and policy groups is listed on the agency’s site, but a 2024 group is never. Also, 2023-24 research members are listed, but 2024-25 members are not, with the web no saying when the next program time will begin.
Although a scholar intern is listed on the website, the application form has been closedform” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>closed since before May 2023. There are no open positions at the center right now because the Scholar in Practice Postdoctoral Fellowship program website also closedform” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>closed in 2023.
The Fix emailed five of the 2023-24 studies affiliates to inquire about their interactions with the middle and the program’s prospects, but they received no inquiries.
The school audited the core last year following the announcement of the layoffs, and numerous previous employees criticized Kendi’s leadership. However, the examiners” concluded that CAR’s financial control of its offers and products was appropriate”.
Kendi has recently stated that some of the center’s activities, such as creating a graduate plan in antiracist research, will not be finished. Also, the agency’s social media accounts have just posted information related to The Emancipator since March.
The most recent COVID Tales were published two years ago, but the COVID Racial Data Tracker stopped collecting statistics in March 2021. The most recent release from the Racial Data Lab was from August 2023, just like the most recent post on the Antiracist Tech Initiative website.
Everything is listed on a website titled” What We’re Working On” from this year.
Since 2022, no plan reports or convenings have been published, and the facility has not submitted any amicus briefs since 2023. Additionally, this year’s Model Legislation Project has not been updated.
While the monthly Antiracist Book Festival did not take place in 2023 or 2024, the Antiracist Legal Education Project advertises an occurrence as “upcoming” from September 2023.
A Vertex Symposium, which is also described as an annual occurrence, has not occurred since 2022.
According to The College Fix and The Washington Free Beacon, Kendi has recently made sizable pledges that were later broken.
However, his “antiracist book event” did not feature a proportional amount of Hispanic and Asian men according to his antiracism concepts, a Fix study found.
According to a Fix study conducted earlier, the majority of the team he fired after the aftermath last year were racial minorities.
