White House Press Secretary On Tuesday, Karine Jean-Pierre assured reporters that “it is currently prohibited for non-citizens to cast ballots in national votes.” Cue the global sigh of relief: At past, we can rest easy knowing noncitizens did n’t vote, because — wonder! — it’s against the rules.
But do you know what else is also “already unlawful”?
Crazy driving. According to Better Life Recovery &, Wellness, about one million persons are detained for drunk driving each year in the United States, and “results from studies show that this number only accounts for a small percentage of the exact amount of alcohol-impaired individuals behind the wheel each time.”
It’s also “already illegitimate” for someone under the age of 21 to get or drink alcohol, but 12.6 million people between the ages of 12 and 20 have reported having at least one alcoholic beverage in their life, according to the 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
It’s “already unlawful” to take a motor vehicle, but 83, 220 people were arrested in 2020 for reportedly doing just that, according to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Also, 67, 900 individuals were also arrested in 2020 for alleged, “already illegal” assault.
Jean-Pierre, who works for the administration that has seen millions of people enter the country without authorization, should be able to demonstrate to anyone that just because something is “illegal” does n’t mean it’s not happening.
How different did 41 noncitizens cast ballots in North Carolina in 2016? Or how did 11, 198 noncitizens officially ending up on Pennsylvania’s voting spins? We’ve been reliably informed that it ca n’t because it’s “already illegal” to cast a ballot as a noncitizen or to register to cast as one.
As Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, previously stated in these pages, it could be because the latest national voter registration form only asks potential voters to check a box that states they are telling the truth about themselves as citizens, which amounts to nothing more than the honor program.
The Republican-led Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility ( SAVE ) Act is reportedly tied to a continuing resolution that would fund the government through March, which is why Speaker Mike Johnson is doing so.
The 1993 National Voter Registration Act may be amended by the SAVE Act, which would involve film membership identification. That means that people who ca n’t demonstrate their citizenship wo n’t be added to the voter rolls.
After years of softly lamenting alleged foreign election intervention on behalf of former President Donald Trump, you might think Democrats had support keeping foreigners out of our votes.
Because 198 Democrats voted against the right to keep foreigners out of our elections in July, and their argument was comparable to Jean-Pierre’s, it must have been false indignation.
” It is against the rules for noncitizens to register to vote and to vote in national votes”, Rep. Joseph Morelle, D-N. Y., previously , said , in opposition to the bill.
” We know that it is already unlawful for noncitizens to voting in national votes”, Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala., said. Noncitizens would currently experience up to five years in prison for attempting to cast ballot in national elections, and they could also face deportation.
However, prohibiting state from” confirming citizen when votes are cast,” as The Federalist CEO and co-founder Sean Davis noted in a blog on X on Wednesday, “would be like having a law that prohibits speeding and then prohibits any method for detecting rate.”
