In a sour, personal reading, the families of American girls and women who were killed by illegal immigrants crossing the southern border confronted Washington officials.
With falls for votes frequently occurring after hearing the terrible accounts of the victims ‘ loved ones, the reading lasted for more than 5 1/2 time.
Democrats largely lamented that Republicans had never worked on a bipartisan basis to go immigration reform over the past month and a half, while Republicans blamed Presidents Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for enacting border policies that had overthrown the immigration system and allowed unvetted people into the country.
The Department of Homeland Security has maintained that newcomers are screened and vetrated based on the information they have at the screen. The witnesses on the ground Tuesday offered contradicting accounts of how offenders in their daughters ‘ cases managed to enter despite legal histories and gang involvement.
1. Rachel Morin’s family: My 1975 abduction’ is zero’ compared to what child suffered
The family of a 37-year-old Maryland woman who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant testified to politicians that she herself was a victim of violent crime whose agonizing suffering years before paled in comparison to the horrors her child, Rachel Morin, experienced.
Patty Morin of Harford County, Maryland, recalled Tuesday on Capitol Hill in an personal hearing on border violence how she was kidnapped as a 14-year-old woman, raped frequently, and finally rescued by authorities in 1975.
In her opening statement before the House Judiciary Committee, Morin said,” I can tell you that what I suffered as a student at the hands of a criminally stupid person is nothing compared to the horrors that my child suffered, and it’s because of these empty edges.”
In an effort by Republicans to draw attention to the illegal immigration problems ahead of the November election, Morin’s narrative was one of several horrifying accounts that witnesses before politicians shared about the offences their family members were subjects of during the Biden administration.
Morin’s 37-year-old girl, a mother of five youngsters, was raped and murdered while on a ride in August 2023. Authorities in Oklahoma arrested the , perfect suspect , in the case after a 10-month research that involved the FBI and local and state law enforcement.
Morin said the think, Victor Martinez-Hernandez of El Salvador, was intercepted three days attempting to enter the United States from Mexico and returned, only to make it in the third time without getting caught. The suspect fled to the United States to avoid imprisonment because he had a world warrant for murder in his home state.
” I wish there was a way to show you pictures of]my daughter ] and what she looked like, what the crime scene looked like”, Morin said. The most terrible violence that has occurred in Maryland that they can actually recall. Her kids are struggling, too. As a community, we are all dealing with some difficulty. We have hallucinations”.

Morin claimed that her own suffering did not consider how abominable her mother’s death was.
” In 1975, there was a 14-year-old woman who was abducted from her home by a criminally stupid man”, Morin said. ” She was kidnapped. No food, no water, and no food were present when she and this gentleman walked 60 km to the French border. They were walking through the woods at night. She was raped many times. The families and the police did not anticipate finding this woman, and if they did, they did not anticipate finding her dead.
” I’m that girl, and I realize some of you are disinterested in this because you really think it’s a political issue, but these are American folks,” Morin said”. These are British people. If I may live a crime from an American citizen, these people that are coming over the border, if they’re coming over improperly, it’s because they have something to cover those that come around fraudulently.”
Just 15 minutes from where Morin lived, she said another woman, 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton, was raped and murdered by another illegal immigrant from El Salvador a year earlier.
Hamilton’s mother, Tammy Nobles, testified in the same hearing that federal police failed to vet Hamilton’s convicted murderer, Walter Javier Martinez, at the southern border when he crossed alone at the age of 16 and did not follow up on his whereabouts after releasing him to an adult in the U. S. The shortcomings enabled Martinez to take her daughter’s life in July 2022.
2. Crime victim advocate snaps at Democratic congresswoman: ‘ That is insulting’
When Jordan asked the victims ‘ families and friends if they felt they were being “exposed” by Republicans who were questioning them by Reps. Veronica Escobar (D-TX ) and Glenn Ivey (D-MD), the hearing exploded.
Escobar claimed that the Senate bipartisan border bill was” the most border hardening bill ever written” and that Republicans were not working with Democrats to change laws after blocking passage despite conservatives who have claimed the bill as being” soft on the border.”
There is “very little interest on the other side of working in a bipartisan way to find meaningful solutions,” said Escobar.
Every witness who represented a family member who was killed by an illegal immigrant who had been suspected of being one or more of the same said they did n’t feel taken advantage of by Republicans.
Anne Fundner, the mother of a fentanyl poisoning victim, Weston, targeted Escobar and Ivey.
I find it very interesting that both of your left-leaning testimony’s five minutes featured a speech,” Fundner said,” rather than any questions for us up here. I’m getting tired of hearing about the most comprehensive border bill, which did nothing for immigration, I mean, for American citizens. It granted visas to those who needed to extend their stays, and it granted asylum to those who came over, but it did nothing for an American citizen.

April Aguirre, a Houston-based crime victims ‘ advocate, responded to Jordan’s question with a direct response to Escobar.
Aguirre said,” I’d like a phone call from you to see what you can do to help these families because I get phoned every week from victims all over the United States, but I’m just a small person with a small foundation that helps people here locally in Harris County.” One Democrat called me at least once to offer their assistance when her daughter was murdered while I was assisting her in the criminal justice system. It was only Republicans”.
Escobar interrupted and said she was “happy to call.”
” No, please do n’t speak over me, because I’m still talking”, Aguirre retorted.
” OK, I was responding to your invitation to talk”, Escobar said.
” I have the mic. I have the floor. I have the floor. As Jordan jumped in and said Aguirre had the authority to speak, Aguirre said,” If you want to answer me, you ask.”
” You said some very broad statements”, Aguirre said. ” It’s insulting. These people lost loved ones. They lost children, and we want to see a difference. Although we may not fully comprehend what is happening, I can assure you that we are not being misused in any way. And if today, somebody calls that number that wants to help from any side of the aisle, we want solutions”.
” That’s what I just talked about”, Escobar said. ” I just talked about solutions, ma’am”.
” Do n’t make an assumption that we’re being used”, Aguirre said. ” That is insulting”.
Escobar interrupted and said the hearing was “exploiting” the witnesses.
” Insulting”! As Jordan posed the questioning to the following lawmaker, Aguirre yelled.

3. Walwell suffers from AI-generated Trump cat memes.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA ) offered the most heartfelt reassurance to the victims in attendance, but quickly pivoted to internet memes.
Swalwell expressed regret to each of you for the circumstances that brought you here. ” I’m truly sorry that this has happened to your loved ones, and the persons responsible for the deaths of Weston, Arlene, Rachel, Kayla, and Jocelyn should die in jail and then rot in hell. That’s what they deserve”.
He praised the construction of a border wall, adding that he wanted “barriers on our southern border wherever it makes sense.”
However, Swalwell then accused Jordan of not taking the matter seriously.

” The chairman yesterday tweeted,’ When President Trump was in office, the border was secure and the illegal aliens were n’t eating your pets.’ He also then tweeted again, knowing that you’re going to come here to talk about your loved ones who were lost, you would expect some seriousness, some gravitas, respect for the people who came here. What in the hell is this”? Walwell posed the question, pointing to images of screenshotted X posts on a poster behind him.
” The chairman tweets,’ Protect our ducks and kittens in Ohio,’ because he goes down, goes down some crazy rabbit hole, completely debunked, that ]illegal ] aliens are eating pets”, Swalwell said. ” My God, are you OK, Mr. Chairman? Mr. Chairman, this is a serious issue. You tweeted this because these people had lost loved ones. So I am sorry that you came here expecting seriousness. You are serious. They are not, and you deserve a hell of a lot more than what you’re getting”.
Sen. J. D. Vance (R-OH), the running mate of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, has repeatedly claimed that Haitian migrants who were deported from the border have resorted to killing and consuming neighborhood animals, including ducks and kittens.
Officials in Springfield, Ohio, have denied the claims and said they have not received credible information to support Vance’s statements.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, the billionaire, has also made the claim on his social media account.
4. Victims ‘ families claim that the Biden-Harris administration is to blame for all deaths.
Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC ) asked witnesses if they felt safe in the U. S. in light of what they had experienced.
Nobles argued that Harris should permit the incarcerated killer of her daughter to live with her.

Alexis Nungaray, the mother of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, killed by two suspected Venezuelan illegal immigrants in June, said safety ought to be a guarantee, not a privilege.
” We should be able to feel safe throughout all these United States, and it is a very, very broken, failed system”, Nungaray said. ” We should be safe, and that should n’t be a question. That should n’t be a privilege. That should be a requirement as a U. S. citizen”.
