The investigation into a suspect’s killing of drivers on Interstate 75 in Laurel County on Saturday is still on, according to Kentucky State Police, which was released on Monday evening.
KSP Trooper Scottie Pennington expressed hope for Joseph Couch, 32, who may be hiding out in the deep Daniel Boone National Forest, under constant pressure from law enforcement.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root said police have not discovered any proof that anyone else was involved in Couch’s invasion program.
According to Pennington, state, and federal regulators are conducting a systematic search in the densely forested area close to the shooting’s site.
” We hope that he’s still in that area”, Pennington said. ” We all hope that we got him contained”.
Anyone involved in the search should prioritize protection, according to Pennington, even if it means moving at a snail’s pace.
” We are committed to making sure that there is no harm to anyone in the area and also our first firefighters on the ground,” Pennington said.
According to Pennington, investigators are even looking for evidence in addition to Couch. Some data was located Sunday, he said, but did not elaborate.
Pennington urged people to avoid the place for the time being and advised neighbors who live close to the research area to keep an eye out for one another and pay attention to potential problems.
Couch was even made clear by officers that he was working in the Army Reserves rather than the Army National Guard.
Police recently said Couch is believed to possess  , shot into a 12 vehicles on I-75 , at about 5: 30 p. m. Saturday from a view point on a rock hill overlooking the busy street in north Laurel County. Patients were traveling on both the northbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 75.
Four of the victims were transported to a doctor, while the second target arrived at the hospital themself, according to an affidavit. The petition identified the patients as Rachel Puryear, Norma Liberia, Renee Walker, Janet Booth and Erick Tavin.
Puryear told the Herald-Leader , she believed” This gentleman was out to shoot, and he almost did”.
Couch was first identified as a potential interest in the research, and he has since been on the move. Authorities later upgraded his position to a think and are offering a ,$ 5, 000 reward , in exchange for information that leads to Couch’s imprisonment. Even Monday, an anonymous donor offered a$ 10, 000 present to the sheriff’s department for information leading to Couch’s record.
Authorities believe the gunman consciously fired from close to a heavily wooded section of Interstate 75 and that it was planned.
Couch’s vehicle , was recovered Saturday evening. Additionally, authorities discovered an AR-15 assault weapons believed to have been used in the shooting and a phone that they thought reportedly owned by him.
Before the firing Couch , messaged , his ex-wife promising,” I’m going to shoot a lot of people”.
Imprisonment warrants , have been filed against Couch, charging him with five counts of attempted murder and five matters of first-degree abuse. Couch could face criminal mischief and wanton destruction charges if he shoots into another vehicles without getting hurt.
