Pope Francis waded into the US presidential election debate on Friday, offering a pointed critique of both candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, labeling them as “against life.” During a press conference aboard his plane returning to Rome after a 12-day tour of Asia, the pontiff criticized Trump’s immigration policies and Harris’s stance on abortion.
” Both are against career. the one who kills babies and the one who discards workers. Both are against existence”, Pope Francis told investigators.
Trump’s conservative immigration laws, including his pledge to arrest and arrest illegal immigrants if re-elected, were the subject of Pope’s condemnation of him. He said that sending migrants aside and not inviting or allowing them to work is a sin.
On the other hand, Kamala Harris, who has vowed to rebuild abortion right after the U. S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, was even singled out by Francis. The pope referred to contraception as “killing children”, aligning with his regular pro-life position.
” I do n’t vote there because I’m not an American.” However, let’s be clear: it is wrong to send workers aside and not to welcome them into their homes, Francis said.
Facing this spiritual problem, the Pope left citizens with a somber question:” One has to select the lesser of two horrors. Who is the lesser sin? That woman or that person? I do n’t know. People must consider their own consciences and make these choices.
