
According to authorities, a suspect escaped incarceration minutes after making an appearance in front of a Bronx judge on Thursday from his hospital bed.
The think, named as Jose Lopez, had been detained before he made his escape from the Bronx after speeding up and crashing in the process on August 29 and allegedly fleeing from officers on a bike. Upon his imprisonment at Gerard Avenue and East 150th Street, officials discovered that Lopez had medications, the New York Post reported.
The NYPD is asking for the government’s assistance in locating Lopez and has released a surveillance image of him.
Lopez is about 5 feet 11 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds, authorities said.
During the virtual court appearance, Lopez, 37, pleaded not guilty to charges including” unlawful possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, barrier of political leadership, reckless driving, loss to offer to a commuter, leaving the scene of an accident causing home harm, and driving a vehicle on or across a sidewalk”. Lopez was receiving care at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in Mott Haven, according to the New York Post.
Lopez’s criminal history dates back to 2008, with a full of 16 prosecutions for numerous acts such as assault, burglary, and drug-related costs. Law enforcement officers, including K-9 units, intensive searches in the area of the doctor followed his exit on Thursday day, finding and apprehending him.
