Japan suspends trial removal of Fukushima nuclear debris

Due to a new technical issue, the Fukushima nuclear plant’s operator, which is under investigation in Japan, announced on Tuesday that it had suspended an operation to remove a specimen of very radioactive materials.
The most difficult part of decommissioning the original power plant, which was hit by a severe wave in 2011, is still the removal of the estimated 880 tons of highly nuclear gas and debris inside the original power plant.
The inside of the lab has far too much radiation for people to enter, so engineers earlier this month began putting together an extendable system to try and remove a small test.
Tokyo Electric Power Company ( TEPCO ) had to stop the process on Tuesday after finding that the control center’s remote cameras were not sending back images.
Tatsuya Matoba, a spokeswoman for TEPCO, told AFP,” We are investigating the cause of the problem.”
” We need to find out the cause of the problems before resuming”, he said.
TEPCO originally planned to start on August 22, aiming to collect three grams ( 0.1 ounces ) for analysis, but technical problems caused a delay.
One of the worst nuclear accidents ever to occur at Fukushima’s six reactors resulted in the panic of three of the six reactors.
Some of the 540 Olympic swimming pools ‘ worth of reactor cooling water have been released into the Pacific Ocean since the catastrophe by Japan last year.
Although Tokyo insists the transfer is safe, a position supported by the UN nuclear agency, China and Russia have since banned Japanese shellfish exports as a result.
Harrods, a luxurious London office shop, started selling peaches grown in the area this month as part of a TEPCO initiative to promote meals from the Fukushima area.
