Growth forecast turns pessimistic as investors leery of change, electing judges does n’t address root causes of corruption, security expert says

EL PASO, Texas ( Border Report )– Mexico’s recently approved criminal reform and its president-elect’s declared goal to pursue closer relations with China and Russia are bringing financial confusion to America’s top business partner.

According to the University of Texas at El Paso’s estimates released on Monday, the consensus estimates for gross domestic product has decreased to 1.5 percentage, use progress has been axed to 1.9 percent, and overall investment growth has decreased to 2.8 percent.

Additionally, the inflation forecast for this quarter is then 4.7 percentage and the value of the currency is expected to drop to 20.46 per U. S. money, the study shows.

“Economic doubt has scarcely reached the levels that are now present in Mexico. Judicial unit freedom may be on the cusp of at least half disappearing”, financial experts Thomas M. Fullerton, Jr., and Steven L. Fullerton of UTEP wrote. ” Against that scenery, the consensus view for both 2024 and 2025 has turned very more pessimistic”.

States are incendiary about provocative judicial reform.

A legal act called for the election of some 7, 000 federal courts, no their appointments, and their subsequent vetting was approved last week by the Mexican Senate led by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s MORENA Party. Within hours, the needed 17 of 32 state legislature ratified the article. Lopez Obrador signed it into law on Sunday, due to Mexican Independence Day ceremonies.

Hispanic business leaders and political analysts worry that the proposed amendment and the associated legislation will lessen lawsuits against expropriations and other government-related financial decisions.

” President-elect ( Claudia ) Sheinbaum Pardo has also indicated her administration will seek closer relations with both Moscow and Beijing, raising trade agreement concerns in both Washington and Ottawa”, the UTEP researchers wrote, referring to the U. S. Mexico-Canada Agreement.

The agreement, also known as USMCA, is up for assessment on July 1, 2026. That’s when the three events must ensure in writing whether to continue the deal, according to the Brookings Institution.

Lopez Obrador, the populist-nationalist designer of the questionable judicial reform, leaves department at the end of the month after six years in power. But according to the UTEP researchers, “event after ( Sheinbaum ) takes office on Oct. 1, episodic financial market upheavals are likely to continue”.

Electing judges wo n’t address roots of corruption

Lopez Obrador argued that criminal reform would help promote democracy and stop courts from being paid unfairly. But, at least some U. S. knowledge experts suggest the opposite will happen.

Between the sons of” El Chapo” and” El Mayo” Zambada, a Narco war breaks out in Sinaloa.

” Any time you have people for jobs that are elected, you need to have a plan and strategies require money”, said Michael Ballard, director of knowledge for Virginia-based International Caretaker. ” You may see cartel leaders make significant donations to a certain candidate, and they would essentially be in their pocket and accept favorably decisions or dismiss cases.”

If Lopez Obrador claims that his courts are bribed after being appointed, choosing them only alters the payoff’s trajectory. Lack of strong corporations, examples of public authorities in Mexico that later became the target of criminal indictments in the United States, are some of the main causes of problem in Mexico.

The original defence minister is accused of stealing thousands from the Sinaloa league and the former chancellor of Tamaulipas has been turned into a fugitive from justice. From the highest rates all the way down to your neighborhood police agent, corruption and bribery are a thing of the past. In some cities, complete police forces are being fired because they had ties to organized crime or were employed by those organizations, Ballard reported to Border Report.
