According to a new Scripps News/Ipsos survey, 54 % of respondents said they” strongly” or” somewhat” support the policy former President Donald Trump has made central in his reelection effort. This total includes a sharp partisan divide, mass deportation is supported by 86 % of Republicans, 58 % of independents, and 25 % of Democrats.

In more good news for Trump, 39 % of respondents said that immigration is a top issue this campaign, coming behind inflation, at 57 %. Respondents predict that Trump will do better than Kamala Harris ( 44%-34 % ) in handling immigration.

Concerns about illegal refugees casting ballots in primaries are another topic of common interest. Nearly half of respondents said they were concerned over the prospect, including 83 % of Republicans, 46 % of independents, and 24 % of Democrats.

Skepticism over asylum-seekers has also risen, with a majority of Democrats, 55 %, supporting restrictions limiting the number of migrants who can claim asylum, along with 88 % of Republicans.

The announcement comes as Harris begins to thin Trump’s result, and in some polls surpass, on the market. A recent FT-Michigan Ross&nbsp, poll had Harris leading the former president 44 % to 42 %.

The Scripps News/Ipsos survey was conducted from Sept. 13-15 and surveyed 1, 027 United States people.
