
NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka welcomed its 16th Prime Minister on Tuesday, Harini Amarasuriya, an academic-turned-politician who became the first woman to hold the place since Sirimavo Bandaranaike in 2000. Amarasuriya has a strong connection to India and a strong educational qualifications.
Amarasuriya, 54, spent her early school times at Delhi University, studying at the famous Hindu College in the first 1990s.
From 1991 to 1994, she pursued her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at Delhi University, a time that her old school believes perhaps had shaped her upcoming path.
” It’s a great honor to have a Hinduite as Sri Lanka’s perfect minister.” Harini was a scholar of Sociology from 1991 to 1994, and we are really glad of her achievement”, Hindu College Principal Anju Srivastava told PTI. ” I hope her day at Hindu played a role in guiding her on her path to success,” she said.
Srivastava cited the rich history of pupil management at Hindu College. We elect a perfect minister and opposition leader every month, and Hindu College has a long history of student state. Harini’s session is another step in our college’s historic background” she added.
Nalin Rajan Singh, then a Bollywood producer and a resilience of Amarasuriya, recalled the first 90s at Hindu College. She was very active in school debates and festivals, though I only dimly recall her. Folks like Imtiaz Ali and Arnab Goswami were starting to make their mark in the 1990s. It’s amazing to discover her became prime minister.
Singh, who was the president of the Hindu College students ‘ hostel, expressed his appreciation for the enthusiasm among the students and hoped to welcome Amarasuriya back to the university in the future.
Some people think that her interview will help India and Sri Lanka’s relations grow even stronger.
Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the president of Sri Lanka, sworn in Amarasuriya, who likewise appointed himself to the government along with three others. As the new Prime Minister, Amarasuriya will handle important ministers, including justice, education, employment, business, science and technology, health, and expense.
