Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, addressed the UN Security Council on Tuesday, rejecting the idea of peace deals with Russia. Instead, he demanded an unknown world “action” to urge Russia to halt its conquest of Ukraine and uphold the UN Charter’s tenet of respect for all peoples ‘ sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to Zellenskyy, Russian President Vladimir Putin has broken numerous international conventions and wo n’t go away on his own.
” And that’s why this war ca n’t simply fade away. That’s why this war ca n’t be calmed by talks”, Zelenskyy said. Russia can only be forced into peace, he said, and forcing Russia into harmony as the ultimate attacker and the only criminal of the UN Charter is specifically what’s needed.
The high-level conference, which took position on the outside of the annual UN General Assembly, was attended by officials from 14 of the agency’s 15 member countries, with Russia sending a lower-level UN adviser. Vassily Nebenzia, a member of Russia, lashed out at Zelenskyy’s repeated looks at the UN and the help he received from NATO and users.
UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres reiterated the United Nations ‘ strong support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that Russia’s activities since 2014 have been a distinct violation of these guidelines. Zellenskyy questioned the viability of speaking with Putin, arguing that Russia may be made to feel compelled to put an end to the conflict and terrorism.
Antony Blinken, the secretary of state for the US, claimed that China, Iran, and North Korea had offered Russia different types of financial assistance for its conflict efforts.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, while stressing China’s conviction in respecting the sovereignty and territorial dignity of all nations, did not directly answer to Blinken’s charges. Additionally, Blinken argued that Russia’s growing emphasis on Iran and North Korea only makes the dangers to world peace and security worse.
