Google is working to demonstrate the viability of its AI associate. The software giant maintains its velocity just weeks after showcasing consumer success stories and integrating Google Gemini to Workspace. TechRepublic attended the invite-only Gemini at Work celebration on Sept. 26 at the industrial-chic Pier 57 office in New York City to get a closer look at the AI agent’s features.
Gemini is strongest at summaries, not so good at imagination
The Gemini at Work presentations demonstrated that a project’s characteristics are already being set by people, which is how it performs ideal. Gemini for Workspace blends effortlessly across the platform, living in a side.
In any Workspace program, I could question Gemini about the pre-made business meetings, sound deck and e-mail Google provided. Gemini does a great job of summarizing, and Google is aware of it. Without prompting the person, the document may be summarized by pressing the Gemini star in the record.
Working with Gemini to analyze meeting notes works fairly well, but Gemini struggles with questions that do n’t directly address existing text. As the Google member running the video suggested that I ask Gemini concerns about the information of an email from a particular consumer. However, if you asked Gemini,” Which of these messages is most immediate”? returned no solutions, even though many of the messages were non-urgent” Welcome to Gemini” communications and others were from my imaginary customers.
Notice: Google’s AI Overviews puts Gemini in the widespread search website.
The AI struggled with sensitivity. Google’s meant presentation was a ball board about a caffeine shop’s fall menu. I requested that Gemini write some advertising copy for the espresso shop that made particular reference to aspects of life in New York City. The resulting version was ambiguous. Although the city name was present, it did not include any other notables or mentions of New York’s different culture. Instead of producing relevant images of coffee in mugs, Gemini requested that the text be narrowed down to Brookly n’s Prospect Park area.
Although it frequently takes a few attempts to get the job right, I do n’t believe human marketers with deep customer knowledge can get complete projects from Gemini. Google is aware of that. There are numerous disclosures about Gemini being a creative writing instrument and not an arbitrator of information. This is illustrated by a large number of consumer reports.
Gemini clients use AI as a starting point.
One of the many clients who put their Gemini to the test was Andrew Larson, the main technology and information security official at FinQuery, a provider of accounting software. He said that his firm wants to utilize the technology to “reduce our struggle, all those commonplace, sort of low-thought things”.
His engineers double-checked Gemini’s function and validated it themselves. However, Gemini helps lessen repetitive or routine tasks and free people off to include  , “innovative or big light bulb times”, Larson said.
Colin Wilkinson, executive director at Etsy, said his staff asked Gemini for best customer issues, recurring issues, and how often they get tickets that have increase. This speeds up product teams ‘ responses to input.
” It’s like having an advisor, a consultant or a mentor even”, Mark Cuban,” Shark Tank” investor and, most recently, co-founder of pharmaceutical company Cost Plus Drugs. Cuban was a speech at the gathering.
On September 26, Aparna Pappu, the VM and GM of Google Workspace, speaks with investment Mark Cuban at Google’s New York location’s Pier 57.
His take on working with AI was cynical, saying” You can curse at it, you can call it names, it does n’t matter”. Cuban presented AI as an alternative to hiring more people, with the added benefit AI ca n’t talk back — a grim look at the role of an assistant, perhaps.
Google has a potential profitable job to replace, with 10 million active Workspace users who could likely purchase a Gemini add-on. Many of the attendees at the occasion were professionals or small business owners, some of whom were new to AI, so Google wants to teach those potential clients as much as possible.
According to Google Workspace VP and GM Aparna Pappu,” It’s actually important for the workplace of tomorrow to hear these skills.”
