Air Canada has been fined$ 250, 000 by the US Department of Transportation ( DOT ) for operating flights through restricted Iraqi airspace. The transgressions occurred between October 2022 and January 2023 under the firm’s codeshare partnership with United Airlines, according to Reuters.
The DOT discovered that Air Canada operated several roads between the United Arab Emirates and Canada using United Airlines ‘ flight rules. This contravened FAA ( Federal Aviation Administration ) regulations that prevent US aircraft from entering specific areas of Iraqi airport. The Office of Aviation Consumer Protection ( OACP ) sent an investigation letter, but the airline continued with these operations.
The DOT stated in its assertion that Air Canada had violated the terms of its contract to perform these flights and had engaged in air travel without the proper Mark authority.
Since October 2020, the FAA has prohibited US ships from entering Iraqi airspace by flying below a certain level because of safety concerns there.
The good and its relevance have increased Google Trends ‘ popularity.
Air Canada responded by stating that it has always followed US regulations when flying over conflict-torn areas. The airport added that once the violation was discovered, it immediately responded. The airport explained that the occurrences were “unplanned, accidental, limited in number, and of small period”. The transgressions, according to Air Canada, occurred while using Boeing 777-300 plane, citing elements such as airplane load, sudden wind, and air traffic control difficulties.
Under the DOT ruling, Air Canada must pay half of the$ 250, 000 fine within 60 days, with the remaining half suspended. However, the airline must comply with this expulsion before it can commit any additional violations.
As Google Trends continues to increase in interest in air travel safety, Air Canada has stopped codesharing with United Airlines on its Dubai to Toronto course as of January 13, 2023.
