Following the assassination of Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah, US President Joe Biden has urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to block programs for a possible conquest of southern Lebanon. At a press conference on Monday, Biden was questioned about Israel’s motives to build a minimal activity against Hezbollah, which has been firing rockets into Israel in retaliation for Nasrallah’s dying.
” I’m more knowledgeable than you might know, and I’m comfortable with them stopping”, Biden said. ” We may have a cease-fire today”, he added, according to the New York Post. Following an attack that claimed the lives of Nasrallah, who had been in charge of the organization for more than three decades, the Netanyahu’s state is expected to launch military action to combat Hezbollah’s threats.
While Israel worked to undermine Hezbollah’s military might, the strike caused significant damage in Beirut. Just days earlier, an Zionist operation had targeted communication techniques used by Hezbollah officers, resulting in numerous deaths.
Biden’s relationship with Netanyahu has been anxious, facing criticism from both pro-Israel and anti-Israel parties. Biden has temporarily halted the sale of some arms after criticizing Netanyahu for the casualties he has suffered in the Gaza Strip.
If Israel implements its military plans, it will follow in the footsteps of earlier instances in which US allies in the area disregarded British purchases. Recep Tayyip Erdoan, the president of Turkey, intruded on President Trump’s orders before entering Kurdish areas in Syria, only to have the intrusion end when the US imposed sanctions on Turkey.
Biden visited Israel shortly after the Hamas attack on October 7, which killed around 1,200 people and sparked the ongoing conflict in Gaza last year, calling himself a” Zionist.”
