Helen Terry , lived a gentle and friendly lifestyle. She fought for her land in the military and put forth painful efforts to raise her child after leaving the service, according to her home.
That makes it unbelievable for home to reckon with her terrible finish on , Aug. 28, 1980.
Terry sorely fought her aggressor at her house in Sacramento’s Valley Hi / North Laguna area, authorities theorized at the time. According to The Sacramento Bee’s earlier monitoring, furniture turned around and blood was spit out while her baby was watching his mother experience 13 stab wounds during the abuse. According to authorities, a suspect had racist slur printed across the bathroom door and arrogance picture. Terry was Black.
” We just do n’t have any words”, said , John Mays, Terry’s brother. They have a big community, consisting of 12 brothers and sisters including Helen.
Mays spoke Thursday outside downtown , Sacramento County Main Jail , after attending the trial of Terry’s reported criminal: her father,  , Robert Lee Terry. He was arrested last week after the inspection languished for 44 years,  , the , Sacramento Police Department , said in a media release Wednesday , announcing the arrest.
” We want him to suffer as much as we have for the previous 44 times”, Mays said.
Robert Terry, 81, was arraigned on a murder command in Sacramento Superior Court while his lawyer entered a not-guilty appeal. Terry spoke plainly when Judge , John P. Winn , asked if he would hire an attorney.
” My wife is taking care of the sum”, Terry responded. The , Rancho Cordova , citizen was wheeled away by a lieutenant and is scheduled to return , Oct. 17 , for another judge reading.
Before her death,  , Helen Terry , claimed the assume had fathered her child, someone that , Robert Terry , disputed. A paternity match was continuing, according to earlier Bee reporting.
Outside of court Thursday,  , Helen Terry ‘s , family said she was married to , Robert Terry , and had a child with him. Although the baby is not in town, Mays claimed that the child was relieved to learn of the arrest.
” It’s been a long, long day”, Mays said. ” We’ve been waiting — and we’re gonna wait it out till the end”.
Officer , Anthony Gamble, a spokeswoman for the , Sacramento Police Department, said Wednesday that authorities were also investigating the personality of the father’s parents.
The research into Helen Terry’s crime, which happened at rooms on , Wyndham Drive, had lapsed until a , Sacramento , police inspector reopened the case in 2016. DNA found at the scene “pointed” to Terry’s involvement in the cold case, but that still was n’t enough evidence to charge Terry, the release said.
Officers and the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office used “advanced analytical methods” to discover “new knowledge” that provided “necessary data” to assault Terry, the release said.
The District Attorney’s Office has declined to identify those practices or reveal what fresh data had been discovered.
Helen Terry’s family had” suspicions” of Robert Terry’s involvement and were n’t surprised when he was arrested, Mays said. The arrest brought them closer to feeling shutdown, he said.
” We also overlook her”, Mays said. She has and will always be in my brain.
