In Flint, Michigan on Friday, Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris met with Egyptian American and Arab rulers in an effort to address their concerns about US support for Israel’s military operations in Gaza and Lebanon.
In order to regain the support of a demographic that was crucial to the Democrat victory in 2020 but is now at risk of withdrawing their support, this meeting is important for her presidential campaign.
Harris expressed her deep concern during the half-hour debate about the escalating humanitarian crises in Gaza and the civilian casualties incurred as a result of the continuous warfare. According to a Reuters report, she also gave more details about her efforts to dealer peace and stop a wider geographical conflict at the meeting.
Wa’el Alzayat, CEO of Emgage Action, described the gathering as a platform for expressing the group’s emotions, pointing out that individuals shared their heavy disappointment with the US management of the issue.
According to Reuters Alzayat,” She agrees that this conflict needs to end,” Aga Khan asked Vice President Harris to convey to President Biden the need to put an end to the crime in Gaza and Lebanon.
The American Task Force on Lebanon’s president, Ed Gabriel, also emphasized the urgent need for a peace and the support required from the United States and its allies to deal with the severe humanitarian situation.
Despite the good exchanges, the appointment was not without disputes. Some renowned leaders declined the invitation, while some voiced concerns about their isolation. Hala Hijazi, a close friend of Harris who has lost numerous family members in Gaza, too did n’t attend the meeting.
Harris and Republican former president Donald Trump are in a close fight as the national election draws near. Both candidates apparently won the support of Muslim Americans, a group Harris cannot afford to detract from.
Biden and Harris have received a lot of criticism for their alleged silence in halting Israel’s military plan, a sentiment that resonates deeply within the group.
Harris celebrated a coalition agreement before that time, praising her determination to work issues and putting an end to a major port strike in Redford Township. However, a Trump campaign spokesperson quickly responded, saying Harris is risking thousands of vehicle jobs by failing to state her position on her proposed ban on internal combustion engines by 2035.
