The longshoremen ‘ attack was most recently ended thanks to a temporary agreement that will be finalized until January when the International Longshoremen’s Association and the U.S. Maritime Alliance re-entertain.

The temporary agreement makes sure that the strike wo n’t play a role in the election for president in November, where former president Donald Trump and vice president Kamala Harris are trying to win over working-class voters.

Information of that package are listed below.

As part of the agreement, which needs to be renegotiated by Jan. 15, about 45, 000 stevedores on the East and Gulf coasts may get a 62 % pay increase over the course of six years. The previous raise was about 50 %, but the company was aiming for a 77 % increase.

Because of the raise, the highest-paid dockworkers will make$ 63 per hour, or about$ 131, 040 per year, at the end of the current deal negotiated. They’ll probably get a further boost, given their utilize over the business.

For items to enter the US safely and for supplies to proceed, dockworkers are essential.

” I think this job group has a lot of negotiations power”, Harry Katz, a professor of social negotiations at Cornell University, told CBS News. ” They’re essential workers that ca n’t be replaced, and also the ports are doing well”.

If they receive the 77 % pay raise, the highest-paid dockworkers can make up to$ 69 an hour, or about$ 143, 000 a year. That would be considerably higher than the current hourly wage for highly paid workers.

After their preliminary agreement was made public, President Joe Biden gushed a sigh of relief, though additional obstacles may arise during his or whoever wins the presidency.

” We’ve been working hard on it”, he said. ” With the grace of God, it’s gonna hold”.
