For several tasks, including creating data protection training materials, professionals from all industries are exploring conceptual AI, but will it actually be effective?
At the ISC2 Security Congress in Las Vegas in October, Brian Callahan, senior teacher and student program director for information technology and internet sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Shoshana Sugerman, an undergraduate student in the same plan, presented the effects of their study on this subject.

How can security professionals be trained to create more accurate security training prompts for AI, according to the experiment’s key question? Should security professionals also be fast engineers in order to create successful training using generative AI?
To handle these issues, researchers gave the same essay to three groups: safety experts with ISC2 certifications, self-identified fast engineering experts, and individuals with both qualifications. Their task was to use ChatGPT to make security awareness training. Finally, the training was distributed to the school area, where customers provided comments on the object’s effectiveness.
The researchers made the hypothesis that there would n’t be a significant difference in the training’s quality. But if a change emerged, it would show which abilities were most essential. May prompts created by security professionals or swift engineering professionals prove to be more effective?

Education participants gave the materials a high rating, but ChatGPT made errors.
The researchers distributed the resulting teaching materials — which had been edited somewhat, but included generally AI-generated content — to the Rensselaer individuals, faculty, and employees.
The findings indicated that:
- People who took the training provided by rapid engineers said they were better at preventing social engineering breaches and password security.
- People who participated in the training developed by security professionals were more adept at recognizing and avoiding social engineering attacks, detecting hacking, and rapid architecture.
- People who participated in the dual authorities ‘ training reported being more adept at identifying hacking and cyberthreats.
Callahan noted that it seemed strange for those who had received training from security experts to believe they were much at swift architecture. However, those who created the training did n’t generally rate the AI-written content very highly.
No one believed their initial move to be reliable enough to give to people, according to Callahan. ” It required further and further correction”.
In one instance, ChatGPT produced what appeared to be a clear and complete manual for phishing emails. But, nothing written on the roll was correct. Methods and an email address for IT support had been created by the AI.
ChatGPT’s request to link to RPI’s safety site fundamentally altered the material and produced precise guidelines. In this instance, the researchers corrected the incorrect information received by learners in their teaching materials. None of the teaching participants identified that the education information was inaccuracies, according to Sugerman.
It is crucial to know whether courses are AI-written.
If you know how to enable it correctly, ChatGPT may very well understand your plans, Callahan said. He noted that RPI is a public school, and that all of its guidelines are accessible online.
After the education was over, the researchers just revealed that the information was AI-generated. Responses were mingled, Callahan and Sugerman said:
- Some individuals had “indifferent” expectations for AI to create some written materials in the future.
- Others were” suspicious” or “scared”.
- Some found it “ironic” that the education, focused on details security, had been created by AI.
Callahan argued that any IT staff that uses AI to produce actual training materials should share the use of AI in the development of any content shared with others as opposed to conducting an experiment.
” I believe we have some preliminary proof that relational AI can be a useful tool,” Callahan said. ” But, like any resource, it does come with risks. Certain elements of our coaching were merely wrong, wide, or generic”.
A few constraints of the study
Callahan pointed out a few constraints of the study.
According to him,” There is literature out there that suggests that generative AIs like ChatGPT and other generative AIs can make people believe they have learned something even though they might not have,” he continued.
Instead of asking people to report whether they believed they had learned, testing them on real knowledge may have taken longer than the study’s day had been allotted, according to Callahan.
I inquired after the lecture whether Callahan and Sugarman had thought about using a power team of human-written education. They had, Callahan said. But, split training makers into prompt engineers and cybersecurity experts was a crucial component of the study. In order to populate a control group and further divide the groups, there were n’t enough people in the school area who self-identified as prompt executive experts.
Data from a small first group of participants, consisting of 15 test takers and three check manufacturers, was included in the panel display. In a follow-up message, Callahan told TechRepublic that the last version for publication will contain more participants, as the first experiment was in-progress pilot research.
