A Quebec republican party announced on Tuesday that it would work with another opposition parties to overthrow Prime Minister Justin Trudeau‘s minority government.
Trudeau’s Democrats have 153 votes in the 338-seat House of Commons and must depend on an opposition party to pass legislation. His group has been trailing the Republicans in surveys as the parliamentary elections draw near and Canadians are frustrated by the rising cost of living.
After the Democrats failed to meet his desire to increase senior citizen pension benefits, Bloc Quebecois head Yves-Francois Blanchet claimed Trudeau’s “days are numbered.” To defeat Trudeau’s Democrats, the group will need the communist New Democratic Party and the Conservatives, who are determined to sway a vote. The NDP has long supported the Liberals, but their leader recently stated that it will determine on the merits of each proposed costs.
Trudeau announced last week that he would support the Democrats in the upcoming vote, rejecting a request from some of his party not to work again.
