At the express agency’s monthly Diwali greeting on Friday, US secretary of state Antony Blinken remarked that the Bengali writer’s words capture the spirit of the event, which celebrates the glory of light over darkness.
Blinken said,” Diwali holds different interpretations and methods for different areas. However, Bengali artist Tagore best captured it in his famous poem” Faith is the animal that feels the lighting when the sun is still black.” The concept behind Diwali is that light may push back against shadow.
” A century later, this monthly gathering has become a tradition, one I am really glad of and pleased to continue”, Blinken said, noting the great world celebrations with over a billion Hindus, Buddhists, and Sikhs marking Diwali with attractive decorations, rangoli, and the lighting of diyas.
Blinken commemorated a generation of the department’s annual festival of lights, a custom that was first introduced by then-secretary John Kerry.
Blinken addressed the audience on Friday, expressing pride in the organization’s continued celebration and highlighting Diwali’s general message of hope and resilience.
Blinken also praised the significant efforts of people of South Asian descent, showing how their deep contributions have enriched the social and cultural fabric of the United States. He cited prominent figures like vice president Kamala Harris, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma, saying,” Diwali is a warning of the many ways South Asian culture and Americans of South Asian descent have strengthened our society. Users of the political society and Indian-Americans were present for Blinken’s remarks.
Blinken’s communication of unity, which urged people to keep working toward a peaceful and prosperous earth, came to an end. ” But as we celebrate Diwali, perhaps we keep working to form a world more calm, more successful, and do it along. Content Diwali”, he wished.
Diwali, celebrated with lights, fireworks, sweets, and products, remains a major social event that reinforces the victory of good over evil.
In addition to the festivities, Vice President Harris and President Joe Biden both attended, highlighting the social and moral value of Diwali for millions of Americans.
In a information shared on X, President Biden said,” This Diwali, perhaps we demonstrate the power in the meeting of light. The lighting of understanding, of unity, of wisdom. The lighting for freedom, for politics, for an America where anything is achievable”.
Earlier this year, he hosted a record-breaking Diwali celebration at the White House, inviting around 600 important Indian-Americans from across the nation.
