When the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine was hacked in early October, it looked at second like just another email-and-password smash-and-grab. However, repeated Distributed Denial of Service ( DDoS ) attacks that crippled the service followed that. On October 20, the Internet Archive was suddenly targeted, with threat actors gaining access to their Zendesk aid email system.
The Wayback Machine came again but as a read-only company. What that means is that while you can search archives dating back before the attacks, you ca n’t currently upload an existing web page to the archive.
That concerns unmistakably. When the New York Times, Washington Post, or anyone else stealth-edits a media statement to hide the truth, you may also find the original on the Wayback Machine. That’s no more accurate. The Brownstone Institute reported this week that” for the first time in 30 years, we have traveled a lengthy expanse of day – since October 8– since this company has chronicled the life of the Internet in real time.”
As of this writing, entirely three weeks of online articles have not been archived. What we are missing and what has changed is anyone’s guess. And we are unsure of the service’s arrival. The only real history to which we can turn to is pre-October 8, 2024, the date when everything changed, is entirely possible that it wo n’t return.

But it gets worse.
Facebook discontinued its memory have around the day the Internet Archive got hacked, much like the Wayback Machine. Fluke? Perhaps. But I’m making a foil hat, just in case.

This time, they were caught, and resources like X still have the classic movie. What will happen the next time, though, when a politician or MSM director waits until the uproar has passed before performing their cunning edit and there is no Wayback Device to find them?
Wikipedia is the de facto online dictionary, but it has consistently shown to be biased at best and content to covert editing at worst.  ,
More individuals are using AI to do their online searches and descriptions for them, but big language models are scraping data from sources that are becoming more and more susceptible to manipulation.  ,
