Wisconsin’s most well-known votes secretary in the state of Wisconsin has repeatedly broken election integrity laws. The country’s election regulator has issued an order to Green Bay Clerk Celestine Jeffreys to agree on the night of the election day.  ,
After finally handling a complaint filed by the Public Interest Legal Foundation ( PILF ) on behalf of Green Bay residents, the Wisconsin Elections Commission sent a letter to Jeffreys late last week.  ,
According to the problem, the secretary did not comply with treatments for auditing citizens who registered to vote at their polling places on Election Day for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 votes.  ,
The WEC get states that “in brief, and as more detailed in the analysis above, the Commission finds that the Complaint did provide probable cause to believe that a violation of the law or abuse of discretion occurred with respect to Clerk Jeffreys’s legal actions.”  ,
The fee is just about to render its decision and buy, despite the fact that PILF filed the complaint in April.  ,
A Lack of Knowledge
But did Jeffreys encounter any discipline? Not so much.  ,
The fee, just a few days before the election, ordered Jeffreys to get “affirmative ways” to comply with the law as well as the agency’s updated Election Day Registration postcard advice issued in February 2023. She may even give the commission a certificate that she has completed the necessary legal actions “at the earliest moment practicable after the November 5, 2024 vote, but no later than Monday, February 3, 2025.”
As The Federalist reported, Jeffreys, Green Bay’s major election official, previously acknowledged that she broke the law but admitted ignorance about it.  ,
” Clerk Jeffreys admits that she has no strictly adhered to the laws of Wisconsin. § 6.56 during the primaries alleged. She claims that she did not intentionally violate state law because she did n’t know what the statutory requirements were, and that her failure to do so was due to a lack of awareness of them.  ,
Wisconsin is one of 20 states ( along with the District of Columbia ) that offers Election Day enrollment, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.  ,
The law is clear. After each vote, the Elections Commission must send letters to registered voters as part of its post-election assessment, which is mandated by state law. Undeliverable cards are returned to the clerk’s office where they were sent.  ,
Regional elections officials may look into the situation if a vote is informed that their tackle was changed or that a postcard was returned undeliverable. In the end, the clerk’s office may neutralize the vote from the subscription list and “provide the name of the voter to the area attorney for the county where the polling place is located and the elections commission,” per statute.  ,
According to the problem, Jeffreys allegedly lacked the necessary skills to perform this aspect of her work at every turn. In February 2023, WEC “updated advice regarding the management and control of Election Day Registration cards returned to a attendant’s business after an election.”  ,
The problem asserts that “between the August 2020 election and April 2023 vote”, Jeffreys received more than 200 cards returned “undeliverable”, but has “inactivated just two registrants and referred just one participant to the city attorney”.
According to the WEC report,” they allege that in seven of the nine elections where Clerk Jeffreys received at least one postcard that was returned as “undeliverable” and that Clerk Jeffreys inactivated zero registrants and referred zero registrants to the district attorney.”  ,
A victory for the rule of law
Jeffreys has had trouble following election law because of her contentious campaign as Green Bay city clerk.  ,
The Elections Commission discovered Jeffreys ‘ acceptance of multiple absentee ballots submitted by voters in the 2022 spring election, in violation of election law, according to The Federalist. Wisconsin law prohibits ballot harvesting.  ,
Jeffreys also was at the center of Wisconsin’s” Zuckbucks” scandal. The Democrat-led city allowed leftist activists a central role in election administration, with one long-time Democrat operative given keys to a room where Green Bay’s absentee ballots were stored.  ,
J. Christian Adams, president of PILF, said WEC’s latest order on Jeffreys ‘ failure to follow election statutes is a “win for the rule of law” . ,
Following the election, PILF will launch a full investigation to check whether election officials properly audited all addresses provided at the polls on Election Day and referred those who gave false addresses to police, he said in a statement. No one should believe they can use Election Day Registration to cast a false ballot and get away with it.
PILF is sending a team of election attorneys to swing state Michigan to observe at the polls.  ,
