Tyka Nelson, the Minneapolis song and younger sister of music legend Prince, has died. She was 64.
Nelson was considered the merely whole family to the” Purple Rain” singer-songwriter. Her brother President Nelson told the , Minneapolis Star Tribune , that his mother died Monday but did not disclose any details. A official for Prince’s house did not immediately respond Tuesday to The Times ‘ request for comment, but, the land did confirm the dying to , Variety. A reason was never disclosed.

Her aunt Charles” Chazz” Smith also confirmed her death, writing on , Facebook:” Our community is very saddened to share the news of my aunt Tyka Evene Nelson who passed away this morning”.
Between 1988 and 2011, the song writer and actor recorded four songs, according to the Star Tribune. She was scheduled to leave after a farewell concert in June, but she canceled due to illness, according to the news.
” I really was n’t a singer. I’m a poet. I merely so happen to be able to perform. I enjoy singing”, she told the exit at the time, adding that she was working on a narrative.
Her nephew Prince, a genre-fusing king of song,  , died in 2016 , after , unknowingly overdosing on fentanyl. The Rock &, Roll Hall of Famer died at age 57 without a will, leading to one of the , largest and most difficult bankruptcy court proceedings , in Minnesota background, as well as bickering among his six sisters during the , protracted legitimate battle , over his multimillion-dollar house.
Tyka Nelson was identified early on as the” When Doves Cry” singer’s merely full sibling, sharing players John L. Nelson and Mattie Della Shaw as parents. She told Minnesota’s Carver County District Court less than a month after her older brother’s passing that she did not know” of the existence of a will” and that Prince had died without a family, children, or surviving relatives.
A Minnesota determine approved an arrangement to break the land between Prince Legacy LLC and Prince Oat Holdings LLC, two organizations formed to represent the various relatives and descendants, in August 2022. The complex situation was settled. Prior to now, Prince Legacy has represented the passions of his half-sisters, Norrine Nelson, John R. Nelson, and Sharon Nelson. Meanwhile, Prince Oat Holdings was owned by the music publishing company Primary Wave Music, which acquired the rights to Prince’s extensive song catalog when three heirs ( Tyka Nelson, Omarr Baker and Alfred Jackson )  , sold their shares to it in August 2021.
In January, directors of Prince Legacy filed a new lawsuit alleging that four of Prince’s family members — half daughters Sharon Nelson and Norrine Nelson, Prince’s daughter Breanna Nelson and brother Allen Nelson — poorly attempted to remove the manager from the business,  , Forbes , reported.
President and Sir Tyka Nelson, as well as half-sisters Sharon and Norrine Nelson, and Omarr Baker, are all in Tyka’s family. Her half-brother John R. Nelson passed away in 2021, while Alfred Jackson, her half-brother, passed away in 2019.
