TOI Correspondent from Washington: Day One of the second-term Trump presidency is still 75 days away, but it will be a very busy day (Monday) January 20, considering he has made more than 40 “day one” pledges. Among them: Begin the “largest deportation operation in American history,” expand oil drilling, eliminate subsidies for electric vehicles, and ban transgenders from women’s sports.
Of course, he ca n’t possibly fit everything in on a half-day that begins at noon, not to mention that some of his promises are outside the purview of the president or require Congressional approval. But still, some of his deeds that will follow in the days and weeks after will kick off a new era in American politics, existence, and culture.
The most significant changes will be made on the immigration entrance, where Trump has pledged to “restore” the Trump go restrictions on passage from terror-stricken nations, “terminate” every Trump administration open border policy,” and sign an order to end birthright citizenship for the children of illegal aliens,” a fundamental right enshrined in the 14th Amendment.

Trump has threatened to invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, which was used during World War II to apprehend, travel, or arrest non-citizens from a nation that was regarded as an army of the US during the war. However, at different times during his campaign, this law was used. If the process is lightly applied as it was during World War II, next Americans who have a country of origin that the US is at war with at any given time may be detained and deported.
If he adheres to the Project 2025 recommendations made by officials who served in his first leadership ( a statement he has disapproved ), there will be a new” Border Patrol and emigration company” that would recreate Trump’s border wall, create detention camps for children and families, and use the military to arrest millions of millions of illegal immigrants. Illegal immigration should be ended, not mitigated, the border sealed, not reprioritized,” the Project 2025 report says.
Particularly if the authors of Project 2025 are incorporated into the administration, some of the most fundamental changes will occur in the area of reproductive rights, the so-called abortion issue. The report calls for ways to infuse Christian nationalism into government policy by promoting policies that encourage” marriage, work, motherhood, fatherhood, and nuclear families, “ideas echoed by vice-president elect JD Vance.

The project’s recommendations include calling for the prohibition of abortion pills, which are used in more than half of all US abortions, and criminalizing those who provide abortion care by using the government’s tools to track miscarriages, stillbirths, and abortions. Additionally, it advises limiting access to some emergency contraceptive care that is not covered by insurance.
Major changes are also in the works on the wider health front, where Trump has stated he will let Robert Kennedy Jr., a vaccine skeptic among other dodgy ideas, go wild. ” Hours after the Trump victory, Kennedy, expected to head the Department of Health, said in interviews that he would recommend removal of fluoride from the drinking water supply, a decades-long practice experts say improved oral health.
Trump has rejected some Project 2025 proposals as out of date, but here are a number of ideas he has supported, including politicizing the military and the bureaucracy in an effort to woo voters and win over the president. Trump, according to his former chief of staff Gen John Kelly, said he preferred the kind of general that Hitler had after firing at least three generals who served in his administration in civilian capacity and loading him with a four-star general who called him a fascist.

Trump has also pledged to abolish the federal department of education and suggested that the Justice Department and the Federal Reserve, a renowned institution that has long been independent of the White House, serve as subordinates to the president. Then of course there are the tariffs, his tool for all seasons to make America prosperous and punish nations that do n’t adhere to his vision of a level playing field in trade.
Trump’s interpretation of a conservative Supreme Court decision, which he engineered in his first term, creates a precedent unlike any other for an American Imperial Presidency. The” failing” New York Times, his bete-noire, put it rather more mildly in an analysis with the headline” America Hires a Strongman.”
