The British-Pakistani parents of 10-year-old Sara Sharif on Thursday denied her death in court and otherwise, blamed her mother, describing her as “evil” and “psycho”.
Sara Sharif was found deceased on August 10, 2023 in her sleep in Woking, west of London, with over 71 physical injury, including broken bones, fires, and bit marks.
The defendant’s father, Urfan Sharif, 42, travelled to Pakistan one day before the identification, accompanied by his family Beinash Batool, 30, and the child’s brother, Faisal Malik, 29.
Shortly after arriving in Islamabad, Sharif contacted UK government, sadly stating,” I killed my daughter”, and admitting he had “beat her up very much”. But, during court proceedings, Sharif after retracted his statement, claiming he made it to “protect his home”.
At London’s Old Bailey judge, where the group pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and causing a child’s dying, Batool testified about instances of serious abuse by Sharif.
In his second day of evidence, Sharif acknowledged slapping Sara “multiple days” but rejected charges of beating, burning, or biting her, maintaining he was “never at home” during her injury.
Biting her like an dog, perhaps?
Sharif became personal as his attorney Naeem Mian interrogated him about the event that Sara was struck with a cricket bat.
The taxi driver refuted the claims that Batool forced him to hit Sara after she frequently accused the youngster of misbehavior after burning her child with an iron.
Pointing towards Batool in the port, Sharif said:” I should not have believed her… I did n’t realise I’m living with evil and a psycho”.
He claimed Batool bit her “like an animal” as a result.
The jury had recently learned that Batool had declined to have their teeth examined despite Sharif and Malik having already done so.
” I did n’t do it. Faisal did n’t do it. Who else was at household”? Sharif said, AFP reported.
” Her arms were twisted,” she claimed.
Additionally, he denied that Sara was aware of experiencing problems. ” She always told me that”, he stated, explaining that Sara’s wounds remained concealed beneath full-sleeve tops, much bottom and a dress mind covering.
His attorney, Mian revealed that in the month before Sara’s death, Sharif worked long hours, leaving early and returning soon, whilst maintaining normal telephone contact with Batool, who usually remained at home.
Sharif shed tears when he described a time when he returned home to find Sara’s hands stowed behind her with colored packing tape, blaming Batool for this behavior.
Her hands were tied with shipment tape behind her up, he claimed to the jury. Sara was terrified.’
Through tears, he recounted: ‘ Beinash said,” She was naughty so I tied her hands so she could never hurt anyone else”, Daily Mail reported.
When questioned about his silence regarding police presence or Batool’s treatment, Sharif explained that his family was “manipulative” and he accepted her explanation.
” I have been an idiot”, he concluded.
DNA study revealed…
The jury looked at criminal evidence, which included presentation audio bundles and a white vinyl carrier bag that had potential been used on Sara’s head.
According to jury testimony, DNA analysis revealed much brownish hairs that matched Sara’s report on the case, which also had packaging tape attached to it.
The jury learned that Sharif had left fingerprints on both the bag and the tape’s non-adhesive part. He, however, refuted claims that he had made or used a helmet out of Sara’s plastic bag.
Sharif stated that he had handled these things while managing house waste and that he had explained the presence of his prints.
‘ Dad it’s no me’
Due to her dying, Sara, who performed family duties, had requested Sharif to remain at home instead of going to work.
He testified to the judge, that Sara said to me,” Dad it’s not me. Whatever is happening at home, it’s Beinash”.
Sharif had previously claimed Batool had a hostile attitude toward him and prevented him from questioning Sara about the cause of her wounds.
Batool’s message to her sister in 2022 revealed Sharif’s proposal to conceal Sara’s wounds with perfumes, prompting her sister to reply:” Hey it was going to happen you may tell”.
