A source told Reuters that Qatar has instructed Hamas leaders to keep the nation in response to a US ask to stop Qatar’s help for the organization.
Washington has informed Oman that Hamas’s continued existence in Doha is unacceptable following the violent team’s refusal of recent peace and prisoner swap proposals, prompting Qatar to send a similar message to Hamas leaders ten days before in a series of high-stakes communications.
A US official, highlighting the US position, told Reuters,” After rejecting repeated proposals to relieve victims, its officials should no longer be welcomed in the assets of any British partner. Following Hamas’s dismissal a few weeks ago, we made that clear to Qatar.
Three Hamas authorities have denied that Qatar had explicitly requested their departure despite the US’s request.
As part of a deal to ease conversations, especially during times of severe fight between Hamas and Israel, Qatar has housed Hamas ‘ political leaders since 2012. Qatar has spearheaded several rounds of negotiations in recent months to put an end to the violence in Gaza, a task that Hamas has been unable to do due to Hamas ‘ new rejection of a peace present in mid-October, along with the US and Egypt.
The Biden government’s drive for a solution in Gaza has gained intensity as Israel’s hostile attacks have devastated Gaza, leaving an estimated 43, 000 Palestinians useless and causing widespread damage. President Biden’s influence in these last weeks of his presidency has reportedly been limited by Donald Trump’s subsequent victory as the next US president.
Plans for subsequent discussions broke down as a result of Israel’s introduction of new conditions, including a possible military appearance in Gaza, which Hamas deemed to be “last-minute goalposts.” Related mediations in Doha last year resulted in a momentary seven-day truce in Gaza, which allowed the release of hostages and the flow of humanitarian aid, but hostilities immediately returned.
Qatar’s long-standing function as a negotiator has progressively come under fire from US politicians. Qatar’s ambassador to the US just sent a notice to the department of state, in which they called for the authorities ‘ abduction, and urged Qatar to “end its kindness” toward Hamas.
Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed al Abdulrahman Al Thani, has defended the country’s opening of Hamas authorities, stating that their existence facilitates important political discussions.
