Donald Trump‘s Republicans held on to a narrow edge on Friday as election officials tallied the final votes that will determine control of the US House of Representatives, though Democrats succeeded in flipping a pair of New York state seats.
Republicans have secured at least 211 chairs, seven little of the lot in the 435-member room, with 24 tribes left to be called, according to estimates by Edison Research.
Republicans will also likely control the Senate by a lot. Democratic Senator Bob Casey had defeat Democratic Dave McCormick in Pennsylvania, granting Trump’s group 53 votes in the 100-seat chamber, according to several press outlets. If Republicans win near tribes in Arizona and Nevada, which are still unfair, that percentage may increase to 55 seats.
Trump may have a lot of freedom to pursue policies like strict tax cuts, power deregulation, and border security controls if Republicans had complete control of the house. If Democrats were to get 18 of the 24 as-yet-uncalled seats in the House, it would act as a shield against him. Sections of California and New York are where Democrats ‘ hopes of winning the House are sprang up because of over challenges to their ability to win two Republican votes. Three days after the vote, ballot calculating was still going on in some states, including California, Arizona, and some others.
Republicans ‘ majority in the Senate will allow them to confirm Trump’s meetings of cabinet members, courts and other staff, though they will not have the 60 votes needed to quickly move most policy. There may be restrictions on what Trump can do in Congress, yet with Republican power of both chambers. His nominees for government positions might not appeal to some Democratic senators. Additionally, some Political coerciveness would still be required to pass Senate legislation to prevent a senate.
